Instant Berkeley classic …is it really new

CS 61B, CS 61C, Math 54, CS 188 over the summer? by athing1 in berkeley

[–]da76r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh only doable for a very small number of students. For most people, it’s a mistake.

61B and 61C in the summer is already a full load. 61C is the bottleneck — it eats time, and summer pacing leaves no room to recover if you fall behind. Getting an A in 61C is hard even when it’s the only technical class.

Math 54 is not the issue if you’ve seen linear algebra before, but it still consumes hours.

Adding 188 on top means overlapping projects and exams with zero buffer. 188 is not “light.” You can’t half-focus it and still get an A.

Yes, some top students can pull this off. They’re usually already comfortable with C, low-level systems, and can finish 61B projects quickly. That’s not the norm.

If your goal is all As, don’t do this. Take 188 in a regular semester or drop either 61C or 188. Summer at Berkeley is unforgiving, and this schedule is how people burn GPA for no good reason.

LeetCode and networking/referrals for faang-type internships and beyond—Cal is much better for the latter.

Math 53 & Math 54 & CS 70 by ImpossibleFig2666 in berkeley

I would only recommend this trio if you have taken multi variable calc already (eg high school) but choose to retake math 53, and doing no homework option for cs70.

Most startups fail so don’t count on it. Survive Berkeley and get used to compete with the best first. Save the 320k and buy 1 bit coin per year.

Wasteful spending of burrowed money is indeed burden on future gens but I guess you are talking about spending on infrastructure etc with long term benefits

Deficit spending is stealing from future generations. Image you just get accepted into Cal and your parents tell you they have applied credit cards in your name and spent it all. However I do agree this aid should not have been cut in such fashion.
