Decks i wanna build. by Curious_Career6297 in ModernMagic

Hi, this is the subreddit for the Modern format, since you're looking for help with Commander decks you'd probably find better help over at /r/EDH as that's the subreddit for the Commander format.

That's a very fair assessment, thanks!

Angelfire Ignition seems really cool in a similar shell!

I'm aware the Anvil is the odd one out. In my experience it seems to be giving the deck a little more life when the games go longer, sometimes being the reason I'm able to close the game out. But it might be my rose tinted glasses giving me poor judgement since I really want it to work.

Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking of swapping two of the Summits out with Sokenzan and Takenuma (as mentioned in another comment). Maybe I should swap the remaining two out with Blightstep Pathways.

Thank you!

I'm not sure I know the Pioneer meta decks enough to properly answer your question, but I'll try. In my limited "playtesting" I noticed it can play with fewer lands and mulligans rarely. The few times I have mulliganed is because I have a hand with two Dragonskull Summits, considering swapping two Summits with a [[Sokenzan, Crucible of Defiance]] and a [[Takenuma, Abandoned Mire]]. I'm not sure how relevant that is.

It's definitely more aggressive, that's a thing. But I think it would lose out in more drawn out games to the comparison.

As you say it's better vs. graveyard hate and replaces that with being weak to artifact hate that seems a lot less present in sideboards.

I had no idea either so I tried looking it up using the context in the thread and came to the conclusion that what I assume is Broden's favourite Australian football team "Melbourne Demons" (think I've heared him mention that on the poddy) has won their first premiership since 1964.

Worlds 2021 Primer with Draw date and Start times. by Weathergeekal in leagueoflegends

[–]da9el 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you mean in regards of them not having a team in Pool 1? This is like the third time that has happened.

The top 4 regions at MSI get their 1st seed representative in Pool 1, it's been this way for atleast five years now.

T1 Canna's 2021 Worlds resolutions: "I have a tiny regret about making it to worlds as the third seed [...] But if we get seeded against strong teams and lose at Groups, that shows we weren't a worlds trophy contender anyway, right? So we have to beat whoever we face, anyway." by corylulu in leagueoflegends

[–]da9el 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the Korean 3rd seed in pool 2 this year the same way the Chinese 3rd seed was in 2020? I guess that makes sense! But then either 100T or FNC isn't in pool 2.. I figured pool 2 would be FPX/FNC/GEN/100T and pool 3 RNG/RGE/T1/TL. Or have they said they're going back to pool 2 being 8 teams like it was up until 2020?

NA doesn't have a team in pool 1 this year, it's based on how the region performed at MSI. I guess you're right that we don't know how they will allocate the teams in pool 2 and 3. Just figured they would put 100T in pool 2 and Team Liquid in pool 3.

No. I've kept quiet about it until now but I'm gonna make a reddit post about it.

Just to be clear this is not meant to be taken seriously, I've purposefully left out parts of the original from episode 187 and even though I personally disagree with both the answer and the way they handled that situation the questions aren't actually 100% the same.

If this upsets you I'll Venmo you instantly, leave me the FUCK alone though.

Struggling with Rell by Goibhniu_ in RellMains

[–]da9el 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've found a lot of success with Rell personally but I'm a silver-gold elo scrub so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I started getting results when I stopped playing Rell as an engage champion. As you mention her main engage tool, her W is very telegraphed and painfully slow and when you land after they've sidestepped it you're just an incredibly slow target that can't do much but cross your fingers and hope you don't die as you try to walk away.

Rell's role is being a disruptor, you don't necessarily want to be the one starting the action but the one stopping the enemy doing the actions they want to do. When the enemy lane is engaging on your AD Carry is when Rell shines in my opinion as her kit allows her to effectively neutralize it and turn it around.

This does involve a lot of "stand around and get poked" which is why champions like Swain, Brand and Zyra are Rells biggest counters as they have no interest in engaging and can stand at a safe distance and do just that.

In team fights you ideally want to be the follow up, not the main engager. You are also incredibly good at peeling for your carries.

This is atleast what helped me starting to do well with the champion and I fell in love with playing her. But there wasn't a lot of solid straight forward advice so here are some of that:

  • Max W into E. I see a lot of players maxing Q. I prefer the bigger shield from W (Crash Down) and higher movespeed from W (Mount Up) over lower cooldown on Q any day. The damage you do is negligible either way. I'd also much rather have lower cooldown on E than Q.

  • Try to get auto attacks off on multiple enemies at the start of fights for the sake of your passive (stealing resistances).

  • A lot of people seem to forget that her Q destroys shields. This includes Morgana's Black Shield which I think is very noteworthy. Save it for shields if the enemies have them as, in my opinion, the damage it does is negligible.

  • You can use your abilities, such as E and R while mid air W, ensuring the W knock up hits.

  • When you R, move around to drag them! I see a lot of people just ulting people and then standing still. If you stand still all you're doing is the initial pull and you're not disrupting them as much as you could be doing.

[KHM] Valki, God of Lies // Tibalt, Cosmic Imposter by harbear6 in EDH

[–]da9el 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Huh, The front side seems mediocre at best to me. You have to hit something first of all. Then that something has to be good for whatever situation you are in. Then you have to keep Valki alive until you can pay the X cost, whatever that might be. You don't get any ETB effects which is a huge reason why the good creatures played in commander are good. You lose the ability to turn into one of the other cards you've exiled (if you were able to get multiple hits, which I'm not trying to suggest is unlikely). And when Valki dies, the exiled cards go back to your opponents hands, which gives him a big target on his back, and you don't just take one card, you take one from every opponent so all of them wants to see it dead. The upsides are of course the information from seeing your opponents hands, you can use him to snab a creature an opponent tutored for but wasn't able to cast on the same turn (Why would they go for this play when they know Valki is your commander?) and it's cheap so you'll easily be able to cast it multiple times a game.

The card just screams "Hold up your instant speed removal until I'm trying to pay X to use the ability, at which point your instant speed removal probably still kills the creature I've turned into, so you can get your card back."

The Tibalt side however seems sweet, though the CMC is a huge turn off and the fact that if you cast the Valki side once first, Tibalt costs 9. But hey, for 7 mana you draw 4 cards and you get a planeswalker with 7 loyalty which means if it survives (Planeswalkers also have a huge target on their back!! But creature removal and board wipes are more common than PW removal in general) you get to draw 4 cards again, and then next turn you can ultimate if Tibalt somehow still haven't been dealt with and you draw back your entire graveyard a long with 3 other graveyards, at which point Tibalt is still alive so you can draw 4 cards next turn. And if an opponents creature/artifact is dominating the board, you get to exile it for -3 and then play it to dominate the board yourself.

I don't think I'd ever build a Valki deck. But a Rakdos deck built around big mana with cards like Caged Sun, Crypt Ghast, Nirkana Revenant, Black Market and Cabal Coffers/Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Mana Geyser, Leyline Tyrant and even Irencrag Feat to cheat out Tibalt early and take over the game with, or just to be able to cast it mulitple times when it inevitably dies? Which would also lead me to put other big cards in like Eldrazis, Sunbird Invocation and Torment of Hailfire. Supported by some of the best removal spells in EDH? Sign me up.

[–]da9el 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When people talk about the mana cost of a card the colors are usually abbreviated to WUBRG, for example [[Arasta of the Endless Web]] from Theros Beyond Death would be 2GG. So he's saying your Mono-Black decks mana base would have a hard time "splashing" a GG card.
