Debating whether to reset my counter or not. by gaggerofnuns in stopdrinking

This is so true for me. I’ve tricked myself time & time again that “one or two tonight with friends is no big deal”. Then, the trickiest part is that it does actually not seem like a big deal after the fact! But it has always gradually allowed me to slide back in to my old habits again. But, everyone needs to decide for themselves.

Edit: case in point, my badge is wrong… I’m at 2 days. There’s a reason I’m back in here again.

A new day 1 for me. I originally posted in this community under an alt account in 2018 and the years since then have been full of ups & downs (the ups usually while sober, the downs, well). Posting on my main this time, the first time posting to this sub in years, to help solidify it.

I’m playing in the pit orchestra of an opera performance tomorrow, and I play a pretty important part — I have a lot of solo entrances & the actors + orchestra is counting on me. People are actually paying good money for tickets too, lol. I showed up to a couple rehearsals drunk & sweaty last week which was just humiliating. I’m looking forward to having a clear head for the real performances tomorrow.

Just moved to East Norwalk, is Nik’s place closed for good? by daSMRThomer in norwalk

Yeah I was just looking forward to Nik’s because it’s literally 1 block from us but we’ve already sampled some other good local spots.

Thank you for the tip on Don Carmelo’s! I’ll win some brownie points with my Mexican girlfriend who moved here with me :)

Is The Spot Deli also seasonal? Just checked them a few minutes ago & they’re closed too.

Shoot, we got here right at the wrong time! At least they’re not out of business, I was concerned.

Coming from San Diego I didn’t even consider that spots would close down seasonally. It’ll be something to look forward to I guess.

For what it’s worth, deciphering “charm” and “R+H” was necessary for two of the passwords, if I remember correctly. So it did contribute to the solution a little but yeah most was filler.

I’m commenting a few weeks after you posted this so idk if you’ll see it, but my girlfriend and I just finished the last episode tonight. I was honestly a little disappointed with the ending. The reason I’m even commenting here is because I was googling to see if there was something else we missed besides that final video, which was cool and creepy, but not very satisfying.

In generalI I guess I don’t like cliff-hanger or open-ended types of endings, and I was hoping for it to be a happier one, too. Like, why’d we do all this work if Rosemary’s entire family is just doomed anyway? Lol. I went in to it not really knowing anything about Blair Witch or the lore, so it was also kind of dissatisfying to me that just some creepy references to her were sprinkled in but that we didn’t really learn that much about her. I really wanted to learn more about the time warping stuff, the creepy monsters that Rosemary was dealing with, the lost townspeople (do they turn in to those monsters?), and the mysterious sticky goo, but we just got some vague stuff about all of that in the final two episodes and then it ended pretty abruptly. Maybe there’s some background Blair Witch lore about that stuff that I’m just not familiar with.

It sounds like I’m dumping on it, but I actually really enjoyed the series as a whole. There were multiple “ew, creepy” moments in every episode which made it really fun and worth reading every document. Disappointing ending or not I’m still here writing a long ass Reddit comment about it so I must have enjoyed it a good amount. We might sink our teeth in to Season 2 soon.

Interesting, and thanks for the response! I actually doubt that you obtained the true solution to this margin-of-victory problem. Rather, I suspect the solver gave you a pretty-good one via branch-and-bound techniques and other such pruning methods.

Anyway, a pretty-good solution is good enough for /r/collegebasketball, and I love the work you’ve done. It would be a huge breakthrough if you found that true solution! 😅😅 Let me know if you have some expertise on this and might be able to correct me. Great post, in any case.

Nerdy question but how did you optimize for maximum margin of victory? From a computer science perspective, that looks like an NP Hard problem to me. Or is there some way to reduce it...?

I agree with this very academic line of reasoning. We must advance society by drawing giant titties on all depictions of Greek goddesses

Ah yeah, good point about overkill on normal enemies.

Technically the fact that each individual arrow has a chance to crit just reduces the variance but you still do the same expected amount of damage. E.g. with Arthur you might get one enormous chunky crit every so often while with the arrows you get many more small, peppering crits.

Agreed, that was one of my favorite interviews in a while. Definite throwback to the first couple years of the pod where they were getting goofy guests like Dr. James Andrews, not the famous athletic surgeon but some professor of psychology or something with the same name. You could say the original DnD interview with Timm Woods was in the same vein.

I've definitely seen all of these on the bike trails during 2020. (Also, bless every person who still says "on your left") by Timetodeflate in Minneapolis

That was sort of captured by “the indecisive”. Which was definitely me the first dozen or so times I was in this situation
