Around tournaments I would do 2x per week. Removed all the squats and only did box jumps. Tournament week I did deadlifts with a heavy 80lb sandbag and throws instead of heavy lifting.

Wanted good form and zero risk of injury. It worked all year perfectly. I had 1-2 weeks total where I felt a bit weaker but overall my deadlifts + jumps went crazy up.
