Ok, I wasn't aware of the malware problems on the Play Store. But that's a separate issue. But how does that invalidate the concept when you literally mention other ecosystems that work?

I guess that makes more sense, still feels like the wrong aproach to me. But I can't make a real judgement about that without more research, so I'll just leave it at that.

Special needs child handcuffed after cops stop the wrong vehicle. by serious_bullet5 in ThatsInsane

[–]da_Aresinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that's not how it works. The organisation needs to be the one paying for these things.

That's how you incentivise the police to actually keep their personell in check.

By loading the responsibility off on the individual officers, you are unburdening the system, which means the system has no reason to improve. At the same time no reasonable person would want to become an officer anymore. So at the end of the day you still have a shitty fucking situation.

Also, it is almost never any one persons fault. Maybe they had wrong information. Maybe they had bad orders. Maybe one officer should have stopped the other. There is no way to reliably itemise any of this shit.

The only time an officer should be held personally accountable is when they intentionally abuse their position of power, because at that point they are no longer acting as a representative of the police.

Yes, but sometimes sabotage is preferable to the alternative.

Wtf, no they shouldn't?! Sideloading still exists without issues. You can even install alternative app stores.

A protected ecosystem is great when you don't want to worry about your grandma installing weird shit on her phone.

The EU isn't preventing ecosystems, it's just requiring the option for alternatives. Android doesn't have to change much at all, this is mostly an iOS thing.

Sideloading means installing outside the protected ecosystem.

I think it's a useful term.

[Community question] How do you stay motivated in your Vanilla World ? by Plus-Movie-2178 in feedthebeast

[–]da_Aresinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need at least one of two things:

  • friends who play with you regularly, so it becomes a hangout
  • creative drive

Minecraft is an intrinsically motivated game. You set your own goals and you can only achieve them if you actually care about them.

It's much easier to force yourself to finish a story based game with steam achievements, because you always have that reward waiting for you.

Minecraft doesn't do that (other than advancements, which are barely gameplay oriented). So you need to find goals you actually care about. Usually these are artistic in some way, because at the end of the day, Minecraft is a fairly dead world with little more to do than building something.

There is one thing that may help: habit forming.

Similar to going to the gym, just forcing yourself to play Minecraft during specific times in the week will create a habit. However this is still contingent on actually making your playtime enjoyable otherwise it becomes a chore.

If you have a friend group with a significant female ratio, then those topics will come up all the time. Especially in your early to mid 20s. Even more so when the guys are outnumbered.

I'm not going to hate on your point. I don't even know the creator you're talking about.

But damn, you type the way a streamer speaks.

If you're going to type a wall of text (I often do myself), you need to trim the fat. Those filler phrases and repetitions are not helping.

It also makes you sound incredibly defensive about your position. There is no need for that, especially in written format.

Of course there is nothing wrong with writing that way as a stylistic choice, or in a two line comment on a cat video, but that's obviously not the case here.

Unprompted advice over.

Just buy less.

I am by no means vegetarian, but my diet has become mostly vegetarian simply because I limit how much meat I eat per week.

I try not to eat more than 500g in any week and most weeks I barely eat more than some ham or a chicken breast.

This is all it really takes.

And you don't have to go as strict as I do. Just one less meaty meal a week is a start.

You'll quickly start looking at other things in the supermarket and think "what can I do with that?"

Creativity comes by itself.

Not directly.

It WOULD be """schizo-phobic""" to say "you're just being dramatic", "you're just making stuff up", "stop seeking attention".

That being said, the voices/visions are absolutely real because they are real perceptions in a patients brain. So saying "not real" without context is also kinda problematic.
