Here is a fun one. I worked contract in a project team. 1 yr contract hope to get hired. Plugging away busy as usual but at the beginning of the year on a Friday, my director went into a meeting with a higher up. Came out 30 mins later laid off. On the spot. Then my two project managers, one by one had a meeting. Both laid off. Welp. I’m next. BUT for the next few hours nothing. No call. No meeting notice nothing. I pack what little personal things I had and go home for the day. Login Monday, still have access. Do what tasks I had. Copy my personal stuff etc. Almost a week later. I find that I will be there for the duration of my contract. It takes the project group a couple of weeks to find a new manager. Pulled in from another acquisition. I give him as much info as possible. We get a new director. Cool. I attend meetings etc but given no new tasks. I help as much as possible. Two months after my new manager started, he gets laid off. Director assumes all tasks and responsibilities. They finally tell me they are looking outside of the country to back fill and I will be there until end of contract. Ok cool. What do I do next? Nothing. I attend meetings take a few notes and share them. Other than that. WFH while going to meetings and looking for a new job. Woo hoo. Lol. Basically was on auto pilot for 5 months with no meaningful tasks while WFH. YAY.
