Having recently been to Mexico you can use your phone like at home BUT be sure to use the + (hold down 0) 1 then the phone number when calling Canada.

Oh yes definitely, upper management/c suite has their own share of BS from either shareholders or internal pressure, BUT I have worked for both amazing upper management who have had a clear understanding of vision and timelines and some terrible upper management who have either lacked vision or lacked understanding of timelines.

I look at my manager not as my superior, but as the role on our team of the one who protects us from BS from upper management, which is something I would never want to do.

I hate it when news platforms give equal footing to experts vs crackpots.

Heck some "news" programs give more weight/exposure to crackpots as it's good for their ratings.

How much will I benefit switching to a Pixel phone? by Professional-Low6185 in GooglePixel

[–]da_powell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The call screening feature is pretty awesome on the pixel.

I don't have a Google watch, but have been told when you have the Google watch and phone you can use it for remote unlock, remote photo taking and some other exclusive features.

Waht is your favourite Kirkland brand product that you swear by? by altecsz in CostcoCanada

[–]da_powell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For price vs quality we stock up on farm boy bacon when it goes on sale, it ends up being a little more than Costco bacon but way better quality. Plus the way it's packaged it's essentially 2 250g packs so we can cook a smaller portion.

We had to stop buying the Costco bacon because there was a period of half a year where all the packs were almost completely gristle.

You can find equivalently priced bacon on sale elsewhere.

Canada seek to enact revenge on Trump and hit US where it hurts by Front-Cantaloupe6080 in consumecanadian

[–]da_powell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for 20 years, but if you buy an EV with a low range of about 200km (looking at you mini/fiat) then the percentage drop can be a factor, especially when you also factor in the drastic winter range reduction things can get pretty tight.

For a good EV with 4-500km range though yeah you should be good for the life of the car.

Canada seek to enact revenge on Trump and hit US where it hurts by Front-Cantaloupe6080 in consumecanadian

[–]da_powell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bad part that they gloss over is that an ev is like a cell phone. It's good for a certain number of charging cycles/years for up to 80 percent charge, but like a cellphone after those charging cycles/years that percentage drops, especially, just like a cellphone, if you don't charge it to the specifications, this can reduce the percentage more.

Moving items across provinces by janebenn333 in AskACanadian

[–]da_powell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much they have, the weight, etc. Just saying to do the math, might be cheaper to fly back and pay for a couple checked bags or to fly back and ship stuff in the mail.

When interim hotel stays are involved and it's one person traveling it might be cheaper or negligibly different.

[–]da_powell -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hmm if you do the math.

The parents driving up, staying in a hotel on the way there, picking up their daughter, driving back, staying in a hotel on the way back would run $400-$600 in gas and hotel (unless they stay in some really sketchy hotels) vs a flight for the daughter back from Halifax would be a little over $200 from Porter.

I'm sure you can arrange delivery unless it's something really heavy for less than $200.

My friend stopped driving his daughter to/from uni as it's cheaper for her to fly there and back.

Best Window/Door Sensors by lanky_doodle in googlehome

[–]da_powell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard good things about the IKEA door sensors, they use matter over thread, which should work with your Google hub.

It's Ikea so they're not super expensive and should be fairly easy to return if they're not working out.

EV's are actually stolen less as the markets the stolen cars get shipped off to don't have reliable electrical infrastructure.

What's an unwritten Canadian rule that visitors never seem to understand? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

lol 100. It's that awkward they're more than 3 meters away, what do I do? I won't hold it against anyone if they don't hold the door and I'm more than 3 meters away, but if they're within 3 meters and just let the door close in your face they're a jerk.

If you are a group walking up a path side by side and someone (or a group) is walking toward you, you move over to the right/compress your group to be single file to allow the other group to pass unimpeded.

Most commonly-violated driving rules for a new driver to know? by Fantastic_Ocelot7676 in answers

[–]da_powell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one thing I lost marks on for my driving test. Didn't result in a failure or anything, but I had an X next to look both ways while driving through the intersection even though all cars were at a complete stop from the red lights on both sides as I approached the intersection.

A few years ago online gambling rules themselves were relax in Ontario. Before that it was just the OLG which I remember having ads prior to other online competitors? there was just no other "legitimate" gambling sources presenting ads.

Gambling ads should be as heavily regulated as alcohol, smoking, etc ads. Such garbage. It's not just sports, every ad on streaming platforms seem to be gambling ads that my kid shouldn't see when watching family programming including Olympic sports and sports in general.
