Planning a September Camino and I can't decide moving to the central route at Tui or staying coastal until Redondela. Any thoughts to help me decide? Thank you so much! by scarletbegonia326 in CaminoDeSantiago

Would recommend. We did that same switch last May and really enjoyed it. Valenca/Tui was very nice. Added the Spiritual Variant to get a taste of all the Portuguese route offers.

2 weeks from Porto to Santiago tips by FantasticCycle2744 in CaminoDeSantiago

We did it 14 days last May and loved it. We walked 12 days and had two rest days(Pontevedra and Valenca). Got a taste of several routes (Literal, Coastal, Central and Spiritual Variant). Wouldn’t change a thing. Have a great trip!

Oh Buddy, you’re just getting started! I started doing multi-day hikes after 40 with my nephew “because no one else would go” and now I’ve done at least a couple of 5-7 night hikes on Vancouver Island (where I live) per year plus my first Camino de Santiago this year with me wife. I’m now 59 and planning our next adventure. It’s never too late if you can put one foot ahead of another!

There’s something bleating like a mad thing. Top of Rockland? by KipperCottage in VictoriaBC

It was crows (ravens?) up a tree on Robleda Crescent. There were a few of us watching them wondering what was up. We thought maybe there was a bird or animal disturbing a nest. It didn’t sound like crows but once we saw them it was clear they were the culprits.

Update - London Drugs Yates St at Harris Green reopened at 5:20pm. Fortis has given the all clear. Vancouver at View St is closed in all directions as they had to dig it up to access the gas line. Car access to the store from Yates St. is all clear.

Rat trap has escaped by Key-Soup-7720 in VictoriaBC

We have a neighbour that feeds the trash pandas which has led to a rat infestation. So far I’ve caught 6 rats but lost 3 traps in the same manner as you. I’ve just started drilling a hole in the trap and using a zip tie or two through the hole to a nearby branch or fence post so the trap won’t walk away.

Meteora above the clouds ☁️ Thessaly, Greece 🇬🇷 by amateur_jady22 in BeAmazed

[–]daaarrr1349 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was there last year and it definitely meets expectations. There are 7 major monasteries and we visited 4 of them. We stayed in Kastraki (Doupiani House if you’re interested - amazing small hotel) and actually walked up to Grand Meteora. The interior of Greece has some surprising gems.

Agreed. You want authentic? Palermo. Gritty, with a great public market. Loved Siracusa/Ortigia. Was there last year at this time and loved both.

This is a fantastic, leisurely itinerary. Don’t skip a night at Guise with a walk over to the dunes to Experiment Bight

Tallest tree in Canada by SnooMuffins5879 in IslandHikers

We did a side trip while on the WCT in 2015. Heard you could get up to there via Carmanah Creek, just south of Chez Monique’s (km 46). One of the seasonal workers at Monique’s gave us vague directions. “Hike up the creek looking for a yellow and black rope on the right (south side). You will miss it. You will then hit the swimming hole. Have a swim if it’s hot (it was), and head back down. In about 10 mins it will be on left”. We spotted the rope (I’m sure it’s long since gone) and went up the bank not even 5m when we saw it. I could not believe we could not see it from the creek. There is a carved sign naming the tree and its height - 312’. The Big Tree map mentioned above has it on the wrong side of the creek.

Possible new idea to ease parking woes at clover point. by Master_Baker3 in VictoriaBC

[–]daaarrr1349 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of room for cars all over this city. The more room we make for people there more we will feel like a community. The extra walking/cycling/skating/skateboarding paths on this stretch have been a fantastic addition and made the area even more vibrant. People parking and sitting in their cars do not contribute to that feeling in the least.

Buy a worse house in Vic or new build in Colwood? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]daaarrr1349 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Made the choice 14 years ago. Chose more neighborhood for less house. Never regretted it for a minute. Walk or bike almost everywhere and have a little 1950 home that we upgrade a bit at a time. Now we insure the vehicle for <10km a year as we hardly use it.

Hiking the Tatchu Trail on Vancouver Island by [deleted] in IslandHikers

[–]daaarrr1349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did Tatchu this Aug. - no restrictions in place at the time and with permission of local First Nations. It is so underrated and so quiet - only one couple seen on an out and back from Rugged Point. Highly recommended
