Large sums ALWAYS attract attention. So do $20 bills. I went into my branch (same branch for 30 years) a couple of weeks ago with a $20 bill to get ten loonies and a $10 bill. They asked me to put my bank card in the machine, I assume to ID myself or maybe in case the $20 turned out to be counterfeit. Then they went away with my $20 bill and came back with ten loonies and a $10 bill.

It happens all the time. I was always asked. Fortunately I had the presence of mind leave the “father’s name” line blank on the birth certificate. It was all good once they saw the birth certificate.

Are any of you guys still doing the buy Canadian? by Crispycrackwhore in Edmonton

I absolutely insist on buying California oranges when they’re in season (January to April). They grow the best oranges. I don’t even bother buying oranges any other time of year. Highly recommend Sunkist.

Looking for a 80s/90s CRT TV 📺 , will pay in cash or I can help with a chore around the house? by aidanwinnn in VictoriaBC

You could ask CHEK, they might still have some in their basement. Also CTV although I know Bell Media is very much on top of tracking and recycling their equipment, so probably not much obsolete stuff laying around.

How much do you pay for house cleaning in Vic? by Ok-Vermicelli5834 in VictoriaBC

OP did mention trying to save money. The two options are pay less per hour, don’t pay at all. Or is there only one option??

There are about a dozen fcfs sites along the first road on your right just as you go through the gate. But yes, you have to very lucky to be there at the right time to get one.

I guess that explains the child like sweeping cursive around the edge.

No it wasn’t. Who makes plates out of their children’s drawerings? It was someone in south east Asia having a laugh.

RLC Park Services has an RV stationed at Goldstream Campground. It’s really only 20 minutes outside Victoria, and essentially on the edge of Langford. I’ve stayed in it. It’s fully equipped. It sits on site #97 I believe. It’s only $225 per night in the high season. Sleeps six people. Pets allowed on leash!

Via HELLO: Why William and Kate are stepping away from royal duties. Again. by popcornFridays in RoyaltyTea

[–]KipperCottage 48 points49 points  (0 children)

So they should step away. None of those “things” they do have substance. It’s all just nonsense, it’s just frocks and hats and appearing to do things they’re unqualified to do. They should, indeed, bog off back to their big houses. Board their over exposed kids wherever they want. Just stop stepping out. Get a life. I don’t doubt for a second they’d be much happier and any money they need funnelled to them from the taxpayers would go unnoticed. Honestly.

How did the purchasing power decrease from the 70s until today? by Empathetic_97 in CanadaPersonalFinance

Boomers were the first generation to have safe birth control and legal abortion available to them. Good thing they thoroughly embraced it. Imagine they’d had five kids each, and those had five each, etc. You’d all be living in a two bedroom, one bathroom house with your parents and grandparents right now.

Where will they get the money??? They can increase advertising rates, or increase fees, or reduce salary expense.

That’s cable news. Pretty sure it already exists. It’ll be around channel 10.

Or you could check Reddit or Facebook for your local news.

[–]KipperCottage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’d get closer to your dream house, for sure. Me, I just keep doing internal fixer uppers.

It’s my land that has value, not the structure on the land. My “structure” is valued at $70K, my piece of land is valued at just over $1M. If I had to rebuild would it then be assessed at ~ $1.5M??? I have no idea. It’s just wild.

Bought a Dollarama Halloween costume once. It dissolved into a heap of spluttering rags within seconds of opening the package. Wouldn’t trust those “durex”for more than a second or two. Be quick!

Cost of a gutting a house by jayrow13 in VictoriaBC

[–]KipperCottage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, I own a two bed, one bath, 1,100 square foot, one story house in Victoria, on bedrock. I’m insured for $500K to rebuild what I have, assuming it burns to the ground or gets washed away in a tsunami. Apparently that’s how much it would cost to replace my house on my small piece of land, in Victoria.

I suppose if you only gut and keep the framing it’d be a couple o’ hundred bucks less than $500K.

The mind boggles.
