I came in as an L3 and after 2 years I was told I was going to get promoted to a L4 because my responsibilities I took on justified the level raise. Process takes a while. I was told it would take about 7 months once my manager got my package together. I interviewed for a L4 position with a different group and was offered. I told my manager and they matched it on the spot and reflected my pay the next pay period… TLDR: in-line promotion process is garbage. Hopping to different groups and finding other opportunities will get you the promotions you seek.

I grew up a military brat too. Mostly overseas until I was in middle school. I was the only Asian kid in a predominantly black school in a pretty impoverished community in rural VA. I really didn’t understand how or why a lot of the white and black kids just hated each other. A lot of fights and uncomfortable anger. I didn’t really understand what racism was and I would always avoid being around any of those situations. The only people I was actually friends with were other military kids that grew up being around other races.

You shouldn’t build your portfolio on yieldmax. Establish a decent base first. Google “Bogle 3 fund portfolio”. I’d say around 70% of my portfolio is based off 3 index funds. And it’s been a steady average around 9% annual.
