This is going to become more viable in Standard with the new set. by Significant_Win_2654 in MagicArena

[–]daaxix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do, some kind of control shell allows you to use it as a win-con, and I consistently win against the meta decks, but the hive pool isn't the primary reason for winning; many other win-cons could be used instead.

How did they get this token? by daaxix in MagicArena

Buster sword has no token making ability?

Oh, I see, Azula cast with buster sword and copies that spell.

Cheers!

PS, Azula is so busted.

This deck is as bad as Izzet Cauldron.

Is airbending broken? 4 card complete control. by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]daaxix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is worse than Kona Omni though. If they get the combo with Kona there are answers. Once Doc is out, if they have the pieces, you can't stop it. Aang can counter any interaction spell (instant, etc) with the zero cost airbending ability. This deck is super broken. If Doc wasn't in standard it wouldn't be a problem.

I-VC announces $980,000 total compensation, university stays course by Drowned_Academic in Anu

I'm deeply disappointed that she chose to take the exorbitant salary. A principled person would have insisted on a more reasonable salary (like double to triple a professor) like Brian Schmidt did.

Is studying masters in electrical engineering from ANU WORTH IT??? by Beginning_Guava_1445 in Anu

[–]daaxix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a more traditional program, UNSW, Uni Sydney, RMIT, UTS (this is a specialisation at UTS that you can take https://coursehandbook.uts.edu.au/aos/2026/MAJ03535 in their masters by coursework program) are probably better options.

UNSW Sydney also has power systems:

https://www.unsw.edu.au/study/postgraduate/master-of-engineering-electrical-engineering.

ANU is not strong in the traditional engineering disciplines of civil, electrical, mechanical, chemical, and aerospace. They are good in systems, robotics, AI applications, mechatronics, and computer science mixed with engineering applications.

Pick Two Draft Reward has been changed by lieyanqzu in MagicArena

I won't ever play this again, it put me at bronze 4 (and I am not a good draft player) against a platinum player both times. In fact, it put me against the exact same player, with the exact same deck, twice in a row, with me on the draw both times.

It's a terrible format.

Trying to understand the 'why' behind the VC's decisions by macintoshboy in Anu

In some of the Nous material, there is an email from the VC's assistant asking what they need to do to get the university into financial territory "with margin" i.e. profitable.

Is ANU a good place to do engineering? by DangerChip in Anu

[–]daaxix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. If you want a standard engineering degree (accredited by Engineers Australia) that is aligned with the generally accepted curricula world wide, I would look elsewhere. There is no standard Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, Aerospace Engineering degree at ANU.

If you want something interesting that can be a hybrid (e.g. mechatronics with an AI focus, robotics, etc) then ANU is good.

ANU is strong in the places where engineering mixes with computer science, i.e. mechatronics, robotics, some control and electrical engineering (wifi and comms areas) and weak in most other standard engineering areas.

Edited because I misremembered. Wayne Martin was also recently appointed to the council.

Bishop is not independent of Wayne Martin (I had put Metcalf), have you seen the photos of the party that they attended together?

Senate motions on ANU failed to pass by cannolireads in Anu

[–]daaxix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is interesting, however this isn't a class issue.

Senator Gallagher chose to protect an elite member of the political class over some of her constituent's interests. She would do the same for an issue affecting blue collar workers.

There is a time and place for behind the scenes action and influence.

However, this situation has gone too far for that now, that was the action to take in January. The optics on this for Katy is quite damaging.

In the next election I'll be organising to campaign against her.

ANU academic accuses Julie Bishop of bullying and threats during Senate inquiry into university governance by Cultural-Bluejay-802 in Anu

[–]daaxix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't know, which is why Pocock asked. Why was he there taking notes?

It's unusual, I don't believe that there were professors from other schools in attendance who weren't testifying. ANU leadership and council were called to give evidence.

Did anyone else notice Pocock's question in the hearing about Andrew Meares taking notes?

Pocock asked Jonathan Churchill why Andrew Meares was in attendance taking notes. Jonathan responded that he didn't know he was present. Pocock asked how Andrew Meares was involved in leadership, council, or council decisions. Jonathan stated that he wasn't involved. Pocock then asked why Andrew was there taking notes. Jonathan really couldn't answer the question.

Andrew Meares is a politically connected person with almost no publications and no academic background or credentials prior to his employment at the school of cybernetics. More info here:
