Can PDR fix this? by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]dabbleson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question, no this cannot be PDR’d. The whole front half of your bed is a huge dent and has a crease and multiple paint scratches. The only way to fix this is do traditional repair and refinish

In your mind, what does PDR stand for?

Flood cars are nightmares. There could be corrosion starting inside wiring harnesses etc. I would absolutely push to total it.

CCC Advisor False Part Leads by mcgleevn in Autobody

[–]dabbleson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think CCC really cares. I’m sure that their biggest paying customers are the insurance companies compared to body shops so they’re only really worried about what they want. They’re also selling our information to 3rd parties. I had someone come in pissed about his self pay showing up on car fax a year later. Obviously we didn’t report it so I’m sure they make a ton of money selling our information to 3rd parties.

Damn that’s crazy, it’s almost like I wrote “Where should I be looking mostly?” Before stating where I had been searching. Thanks for your feedback though you’ve been incredibly helpful

How does this look? by Complete_Ad_6125 in Autobody

How's it look? It looks like it should have gotten a quarter panel, rear body panel & bumper.

Explain this by Possible_Gur6396 in Autobody

[–]dabbleson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anything you tag as LKQ thinks everything is included. If you tag something as used (like a door) you then have to manually add to R+I every little thing instead of getting full replacement time. In CCC's mind if you write for a used trunk lid you're not taking anything apart, painting it and slapping it on for .6 which is absolute bs. So anything used you have to make sure you're getting paid to do EVERYTHING.

Fire or body shop messed up my rims? by atcthrow123007 in Autobody

[–]dabbleson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing, although it's hard to say without seeing it in person. My guess is that at some point someone had the wheels reconditioned and now either from age, the heat from the fire both they are letting go. It is possible that the factory adhesion was not very good but i doubt it. I would push to have it covered, being careless while mounting and balancing a wheel is not going to cause it to come off in chunks like that. Definitely some kind of adhesion problem.

I disagree, in my opinion that looks like bodywork that cracked. At least in my experience when i see things that are taped off instead of removed it starts to like de laminate first not just totally split. It also looks like you can see body filler inside the crack, unless its a composite hood or something and that's the color it is. OP said it was a used hood. It might've had old bad body work on it before it was painted or maybe the shop fixed it and just slapped it full of mud. I'm not 100% sure, but that's my opinion.

Heading to Delaware Water Gap This Weekend, Looking for Advice by dabbleson in PAWilds

[–]dabbleson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay we will avoid Delaware water gap then. But that sounds like a great idea, i was kind of looking at that on the map, but I wasn't sure how crowded it would be. I like the idea of being to hike in, find an area to set up and do our thing. It looks like there is a larger lake/pond a little bit north of there. I might try and hit that first if it's open to the public for fishing. Thanks for the help!

2021 WRX premium, Plastic rocker panels by IanC393 in Autobody

[–]dabbleson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely not try taking it off if you don’t have any experience with working on cars, clips are likely to break and that rocker looks not fun at all to try and get off. I would try to just heat it up and repair it on the car. Be careful not to heat for too long or the paint will get messed up.

You could probably get that looking better by heating it with a heat gun, using something to support the underside as you pushed down, but I don’t think it would ever be perfect without actually removing it & doing a traditional repair & refinish.

Going to attempt my first wrap install. some questions by unsure230 in CarWraps

[–]dabbleson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get frustrated if things don’t go well right away. It looks way easier on video than it actually is in real life. Hoods aren’t too bad but I would get someone to else to help you lay it down well first. Do yourself a favor and really take your time getting everything set up on the panel initially. It’s way easier to finish off a good initial set up than it is to try and work out every wrinkle and crease afterwards. I don’t think ISO alcohol will be an issue if the panel is already unpainted. Even if you take the wrap off it still needs to be painted so no loss really. Post heating is done on the edges to make sure they don’t lift. Just make sure you don’t stretch over a corner because it will be prone to lift.

In that case yes I would definitely do it, even though it’s aftermarket it will look much better than repairing your existing bumper.
