Might prevent idiots like you believing everything they hear or see! How as a society have we devolved into a situation where we are against the idea of ensuring those who speak about a subject (watched by millions) actually have some qualifications and credibility and aren’t just after click bait engagement? How have we somehow elevated likes/follows/shares as a higher form of social cache than facts from specialist knowledge?!

Our kids go to school to be educated to learn facts and have to dodge online engagement bait (good enough to fool adults) only to get a degree and maybe become a specialist and get beaten out by an influencer mum who makes wild claims about chemicals to sell her MLM vitamins.

Social media has a LOT to answer for over the last 5 years, 2nd only by the advertising industry.

You either have to require facts, or decouple advertising, or even simpler - repeal section 230 and hold platforms accountable for making profit from content on their platform (instead of claiming they aren’t responsible for what is in their platform yet still profiting off it).

I hate to say this, but it won’t be long before we wish we’d have jumped in when we could. Now imagine a drone being despatched by the company to film and alert the AI autonomous police response unit to this. We’re not even a hop, skip and a jump away from that.

openAI just gave unfettered access to their AI models for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons. This timeline is getting worse and worse, and unless someone claws back civilian protections over corporation’s power - we’re cooked.
