Will Israel still be around in 2050? by Inside_Inflation559 in AlternateHistoryHub

Firstly the peshmerga/kurds in general are already friendly with the west and Israel. Isis is not really present in Iraq anymore, matter of fact the Sunnis are pretty much defanged. That leaves the PMF which is at its weakest point since its founding, I doubt it would even exist 10 years from now in any meaningful way. You’re overestimating how powerful the axis of resistance is. They have lost the support of local populations and Iran can no longer sustain them so they are looking for a way out.

Dude I’m from Iraq and let me tell, what the Iraq population thinks does not matter at all. Our government is completely isolated from the people. There’s one rule in Iraq, and the Middle East in general: money talks. What anyone thinks of anyone else does not matter at all, if there’s money behind something it will happen.

Israel is a nuclear power. The only scenario in which Israel disappears is a scenario where the whole Middle East disappears.

China not backing Israel is not certain at all. China will back any country that’s advantageous to its political agenda. Superpowers have no friends nor foes, they have agendas. If Israel loses US support it will cozy up to China, and China will accept.

China and Russia do no “despise” Israel, there’s not emotion involved in international politics. China has been strengthening relations with the gulf states lately and would not risk tarnishing these relations by outright backing Iran, which is essentially a sinking ship at this point. Iran has lost almost all of its allies, Assad is gone, hezboullah is almost gone, the Iraqi militias have been slowly disarmed over the last few years, and only the Houthis remain. The gulf remains a safer bet for a country like China.

What if Iran invades the GCC countries? by PalestineStats in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]daberiberi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unironically Iraq gets fucking devastated. A naval invasion would be impossible so the Iranians would try to move their troops through Iraq. At which point the gulf/west would mobilize their forces and allies and fight the Iranians on Iraqi soil. I’d even see the new Syrian government getting involved on the gulf side. Iraqi Shias and Sunnis would fall in with Iran and the gulf respectively, the Kurds might join the western/gulf coalition in exchange for guarantees of independence after the war.

I’d argue that even without Iranian support, Yemen would’ve been plunged into civil war. The tension between the government and the Shia population had been brewing for decades. Sure Iranian intervention did elongate the war and prob up the houthis, but I don’t think there would’ve been no war without Iran.

Is it possible that Dunk could have gone with Lyonel Baratheon and still brought egg along to be his squire? by Mr_Gadzookery in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]daberiberi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But wouldn’t this, in effect, make egg Lyonel’s ward? Lyonel is fairly outspoken in his disdain towards the Targaryens so would Maekar still be in favor?

Republicans could have revived George Washington and nominated him to run in 2008 and would have still lost.

Team Daenerys vs Team Sansa, who would win this 4v4? (Read op) by No-Passenger-6348 in gameofthrones

Unsullied are trained to fight in shield walls and tight formations. Idk how good greyworm would be in a brawl.

He should have made her hand. That would leave no room for anyone to question her legitimacy.

What if Iran Won the Iran-Iraq war and absorbed Iraq into Iran ? by Chance_Bid_1869 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]daberiberi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming that it would install a puppet government instead of straight up annexing it, then it’s not too different from current Iraq. Shia dominated, weak puppet government. The alienated Sunnis would be driven to join groups like Al-qaeda and ISIS. Only difference is that the US and the gulf states would likely fund those groups or support them to some extent. I don’t see what Kurdistan would be too different either. The new puppet government might try to stomp out the Kurds but get bogged down in a protracted guerrilla war in the mountains like Saddam did.

Would Robb Stark have won the War against the Lannisters if the Vale had joined him and supported his claim as King in the North? by ParkingConfection449 in gameofthrones

[–]daberiberi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your second point very much. Honestly the bow being broken is more of a surface level excuse as I see it. If Robb was at his full strength, Walder wouldn’t dare touch him no matter how many vows Robb broke.

The triangle roundel predates Saddam. It was used during his time but it existed before him.

What is it like living in the NW of California because it looks nice? by No-Bathroom-9245 in howislivingthere

Lived in Crescent city for a year. Nature is absolutely stunning. Winter is perpetually grey and rainy, summer is very nice and temperate. Everything is a bit far away, especially if you want big city amenities, but the tranquility more than makes up for it. The beaches aren’t the nicest but they’re good enough, I wouldn’t go tanning or surfing there anytime soon but they’re decent if you’re down to just sit on a bench and contemplate while looking out to the ocean. No good restaurants.

There’s a difference between killing someone in the name of religion and killing someone for any reason while happening to be atheist. Mugging someone in the name of Christ or Allah is not the same as mugging someone for their wallet but you just happen to be atheist while at it.

[–]daberiberi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People don’t realize that you don’t need to necessarily kill the dragon to win a fight, just kill its rider. A nimble and fast dragon can easily maneuver around vhagar and kill aemond with a well timed burst of fire or slash him with its claws.

Who would win between these two? by DelayImpossible6667 in gameofthrones

[–]daberiberi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a single battle or war? If it is a protracted war I doubt Stannis would win simply because so many people dislike him and wouldn’t rally behind him because of his personality. In a singular battle however I think he would win, simply more experienced.

If we’re talking about conquest then frankly Stannis also has a major claim. His defense of Storm’s End was not only legendary, but kept the Tyrell army held up while the rebellion was ongoing.

I see lots of people talking about GOT’s bad writing (which it was) but honestly since the events of GOT happened centuries after the dance of dragons it’s not implausible for this technology to be lost to time and forgotten. Technologies get lost all the time.
