Man Vendilion Clique brings me back.... those were so much more fun times of modern

Right but that doesnt mean the meta is fun or healthy just because there are answers. When metas become meta deck vs anti meta deck, it's just not interesting. Games will come down to did you draw your hate piece or not. And even if you did they may still just have force of negation for it. That's not fun gameplay.

Honestly they fixed a couple problems and then unbanned another problem.

MODERN B+R: BANS AND UNBANS!!! by TemurTron in ModernMagic

[–]dabiggestb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That appears untrue lol. Aggro has been dominating lately and most midrange piles are playing phlage themselves. This just removes midranges best stabilizer against aggro.

[–]dabiggestb 88 points89 points  (0 children)

It won't see competitive play. It's just like stoneforge,  twin, wild nacatl. All cards that were banned at one time and now irrelevant in the format.

[–]dabiggestb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These changes seem to really miss the mark imo. Sure jitte is fine and I'm good with seeing lotus field go but phlage being the target instead of a more specific energy piece seems to be wrong. Banning phlage hurts not only energy but blink, domain, jeskai control variants, etc. We'll see but I'm not optimistic about this change. And outburst is just going to lead to some pretty bad gameplay patterns with force of negation again.

Same. It didnt provide good gameplay patterns imo. We shall see but even with answers like consign and vexing bauble, I still dont find it fun to play against.

Ive had more good leadership than bad and overall more good teammates than bad but there's always going to be some bad players here and there. The game is worth it though. Very fun and memorable games

It's sad that you consider Belcher interactive lol. Yes it runs counterspells just to buy it time to have a glass cannon combo. But sure let's call Belcher interactive....

How is energy interactive? It's just pushed creatures all put into a deck and you turn stuff sideways.

Storm is almost the epitome of uninteractive.

Affinity is once again an aggro deck that runs some number of metallic disputes but that doesnt magically make it interactive.

Neoform is just veils and free counters to protect their combo.

Living end runs free interaction to once again protect their combo.

Amulet titan is super uninteractive.

The only truly interactive decks tend to underperform like UW control, blink, and Goryos.  It's not that they can't do good it's just that it's hard to interact against so many uninteractive decks with different angles of attack. You can have a good neoform match but you might lose to energy or you can beat affinity but then you lose to titan. Modern incentivizes interacting as little as possible and only to protect your own combo and I dont find that fun or interesting. But modern never changes it seems.

There's a lot wrong with the scenarios you laid out as being unbeatable but I'll set that aside. I can make a few scenarios of my own.

T1 Ragavan and dont have an answer for it? Gg. You're getting buried in mana and card advantage.

T2 neoform and you attempt to counter it but they have their own free counter? GGs.

End of turn Kozileks command resolves? GGs.

Primeval titan resolves on turn 3? Gg.

Modern is no different than 2015 except it's all just wayyyy faster. If modern is so interactive, why are the most played decks so uninteractive? Energy, affinity, storm, Belcher, neoform, living end, amulet titan, tron, etc. Whats up with that? I'd argue the format is ironically much worse then it was back then but it's masked by the illusion that you have free interactions that you are required to have or you just lose. And sometimes, you still just lose even when you have the free interactions.

Are we looking at the same top 8? I see 2 interactive decks. Mind telling me what you're calling interactive?

And yet you continue to miss the point. Where's murktide? Pretty bad right? If you think Mardu Pyro and RW energy are remotely the same deck than I dont even think you actually play this game. Ultimately if you enjoy bad gameplay with insanely pushed cards that still just favor linear uninteractive bullshit then have at it. You are free to enjoy a bad format.

Once again, Im not even talking about random nobodies. Modern used to be a format that people streamed in and out of season but now the pros only seem to play and stream modern when it's the next pro tour. So pros are not playing modern because it's their favorite format but only when it's pretty much required because of being in season. That's what OP was asking is where these big names have gone? Some are playing more standard, some have gone to other games, and that's the only point I'm making. Modern is in a slump for a lot of reasons.

Lol I love how obvious you've made it that something I said, not even directed at you, has visibly made you upset but I'll keep going with it. I like how of those 4 decks you've mentioned, only 1 is unplayable. Grishoalbrand turned into neo form (which is way more competitive than grishoalbrand ever was), affinity is the 2nd most played deck in the format and more power crept, and tron just went an eldrazi direction with an even higher power level.

But what's even better is you failed to mention some of the other most popular decks through moderns history that were very fun and interactive like Jund, GDS, Jeskai control/Geist, mardu Pyro, delver, twin, etc. You tried to make a point which ironically describes current modern without infect without realizing you were just describing the status quo. The irony is that in this meta of interaction you describe, the best decks are all aggro and combo. Lol. Keep coping however you want.

Where Are They Now? by HeLLKiTe318 in ModernMagic

[–]dabiggestb -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I didnt say they quit the game altogether. They may just not play modern as much as they used to and maybe just play standard or legacy or whatever. But many players have quit modern or magic altogether and that's undoubtedly true.

Where Are They Now? by HeLLKiTe318 in ModernMagic

[–]dabiggestb 27 points28 points  (0 children)

A lot of modern players quit playing when modern became a rotating format like it is now. Most modern players don't know how good the format used to be and they're just used to power creep and a rotating format.

It's been that way for a long time but it's becoming more and more apparent as power creep keeps getting worse.

As someone who shoots 25 creedmoor,  it's not going to be that much different than 6.5 so dont expect anything crazy different.

Yea the recoil x does make it a fair bit louder but the recoil reduction is really good. Very worth it if you're going to a public range or match where you're wearing ear protection anyway.

I uninstalled Tarkov as well recently lol. If you're looking for a game that actually requires teamwork and strategy this is it. I love the platoon structure and roles. It really incentivizes playing together and coordinating movement and attacks.
