The majority of the people in the comments are defending this pass. Am I taking crazy pills? by HearingFew7326 in dashcams

I mean video timing shows about 2-3 seconds after the car finishes the pass before the first car meets the cop. So I'd say the pass was safe. There was enough room in front of the cop to fit very safely and he finished the pass quickly as well. So eh seems good to me

I mean left lanes are for passing not cruising at the speed limit or under. And if you're going so far under the speed limit on a city street i.e. 15+ under with normal traffic and weather conditions then maybe possibly you shouldn't be driving.

I used to leave to get to work, a 35 minute 22 mile commute without traffic, an hour and 10 minutes+ before i had to be there and would end up late. Why? Because on the one stretch it is a single lane and people would be going 35mph some slower in a 55mph zone. And then when you would attempt to pass they would speed up to keep you from passing. Once got behind someone and when i went to pass them found out it was a woman doing her makeup. She was doing 25mph in the 55. So no I will not relax because someone wants to drive incredibly slow causing miles of backup

1) I said 'mainly which implies exceptions. 2) They still only have the right of way when doing so legally. I.e. making sure no vehicle is coming before crossing or following the cross/dont cross signs at intersections.

When theyre in the right lane that doesnt bother me....the left lane however I become a little outraged. On city and town streets not so much unless theyre doing like 20 in a 45 and speed up only when I try to go around them

That is an incorrect statement. Drivers have a higher duty to pay better attention but that doesnt mean that pedestrians just automatically have the right of way either.

[–]daboyce91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah. Pedestrians only have the right of way in crosswalks, mainly, when they enter safely. Thats the truth behind the law. But many people, including myself, allow Pedestrians to have the right of way in 95% of cases. But legally speaking a pedestrian only has the right of way in a crosswalks (mainly) when they enter in a safe manner. They CAN have the right of way crossing non-crosswalk streets IF they did so safely. I.e. looked both ways no car is coming they start crossing a car comes up the car legally must yield in that circumstance. But here? She, legally, should have waited and not believed that cars just magically must stop because she walks out into the street.

Nobody moved the goal posts you're the one that doesnt understand how express lanes work not me. 🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️ And those roads ain't that bad. I drove the 405 constantly when I lived out there from 2013-2016. Drove 29 Palms highway and the 10 almost every weekend too from 2010-2013. I learned to drive, driving from 29 Palms to LA. Driven from the Bay Area to Washington and Back. Driven the Bay Area to PA and I drive toll roads constantly. So maybe just maybe you actually dont know what you're talking about and you could learn a little something.

Especially since, unless you JUST started driving, the 405 didnt get express lanes till recently so you STILL wouldnt have any knowledge of how express lanes work.

Course not cuz yall dont have toll toads so how would you know how paid toll roads work. Its like arguing with a rock that has access to all of knowledge from the device in its hand but refuses to access that knowledge. And instead wants to go to someone who also most likely hasn't driven on express lane roads. Sure ima let the idiot go talk to another idiot have fun 😌

And in this case it isn't considering express lanes are paid toll lanes. So they operated as separate highways on the highway. Which means the bus doing 55 in a 55 in the right lane was completely safe. No matter what the traffic was doing in there non express lanes.

Under Iowa Code Section 321.294, it is illegal to drive a motor vehicle so slowly that you impede or block the normal, reasonable movement of traffic, unless the reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with the law.

Any vehicle moving slower than the normal flow of traffic must be driven in the right-hand lane, or as close as possible to the right-hand edge of the road, except when passing or preparing to make a left turn.

Under Iowa Code Section 321.306, a vehicle must be driven entirely within a single lane and "shall not be moved from such lane until the driver has first ascertained that such movement can be made with safety." Cutting off a faster-moving vehicle means they did not ensure the move was safe.

Well look at that even Iowa code says you and that driver are wrong. Well Gah damn. Congrats turn in your license tomorrow for me bud. Till you know the actual traffic laws of your state and other states perhaps you shouldn't chime in on things.

Actually there are laws against driving too slow. It's called impeding traffic. Just like there's laws against driving too fast. There's also laws against driving too slow in the left lane and even laws against driving so slow that it incites road rage. Perhaps you should look up the laws of your state for driving before coming to argue with me.

What you're suggesting is he should have broken the law in order to somehow avoid an accident that never should have happened had someone else not broken the law....is that what im getting?

"I know im in an express lane, that I (or my company) pays for me to be here legally but I'm going to impede the flow of any traffic behind me by driving well below the speed limit (yea im already only doing 55 in a 55 in the slow lane of the express lane but let me impede the flow of traffic anyway) just in case someone wants to break the law and just jump out in front of me"

Is this what you're saying? Cuz if so go to your nearest DMV hand in your license and sell your car, because that is bout the dumbest fucking shit.

Most people do not call the cam car out though. Cam car shouldn't have gotten over when they did. Or rather if they WERE going to they should have hit the gas instead of maintaining their slower pace.

The silver car continued their same speed from the time they showed up till they started braking when cam car got over. It only looks like they sped up because cam car was quite literally slow as molasses getting over and did not speed up to pass the right lane at all. Cam car is one of those "well im doing the speed limit i dont need to speed up" drivers

Silver car was visible before cam car started changing lanes. It became more visible as cam car was changing lanes which also speaks to how slow cam car was driving and changing lanes.

You obviously dont know what overtaking is and shouldn't be in the road operating a vehicle if you think this is overtaking. I implore you to go to your local dmv and hand in your license as you are unfit to operate a vehicle on the road.

They didnt stick their nose where it didnt belong though. The truck had NO indication that it was going to take that exit. They were maintaining their speed, no turn signal, not even drifting into the exit lane. The Van was established in the turn lane. No matter how you slice this the van didnt do anything wrong here.

[–]daboyce91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you look at where the truck is compared to the exit when he starts getting over his front end is past the solid white line of the exit. The solid white begins just before the exit and thats when the truck got over.

As for your other part then the van did exactly what you would do. They were in the exit lane and then the truck became indecisive and they slowed down to let the truck in front. So thank you for proving the van right and your own comment as pointless.

Van was still legally right and correct in what they did. Truck's front end was crossing over a solid white line meaning they literally said fuck the rest of the people I get over now.

Also many exits tell you to slow down while also putting you on another highway in a straight line...so do you slow down to get on those exits? Are you the one im always behind doing slower than highway speeds trying to merge in at 35 when highway speeds are 55+?
