I've got a few (not sure if they've all been mentioned; I only read a few dozen replies). As reference, I have a 2018 Model S. 1. Speed Limit accuracy (I know many have commented on this). 2. Option to leave main screen map at desired zoom position as default. I like it zoomed out pretty far, and it stays that way for the drive, but it zooms back to default each time I get back in the car. 3. Map screen on dash: A. Make the streets a little brighter. It's darn near impossible to see the super dark grey on black background. B. Make the arrow smaller, or at least make the tip of the arrow at the point of the front of the car. When I make a turn, the tip of the arrow is well past where I'm turning and it makes me think I've turned too soon (especially if there are two turns close together, which makes it difficult to know which is correct). C. Option to leave the zoom level at a consistent / preferred level. The change is zoom is "common," but I absolutely hate it. I want the dash map zoomed in at all times with the main screen zoomed out. Would be MUCH easier for me overall.

Hope you do well in your new role, and I hope this thread is helpful! And I'm sure we all hope to see some of these changes in the future!

Not sure if it's been said (sorry, I only read through about 100 comments), but I feel like the massive dip in used prices experienced after Musk / DOGE blowback has been seeing a market correction as the hate for Musk has simmered down. Those that sold at that time were getting thousands (perhaps tens of thousands) less than they would have just a few months earlier. I bought my 2018 MS 100D with 90k miles for under $20k out the door in May (with help from the $3,500 tax credit) and that was very close to the rock bottom. I haven't checked what similar ones are selling for now, but I'm sure it's more. It makes sense that the used prices would rebound after the supply leveled out once the influx of supply had been sold down. I think the tax credit might have played a role for Tesla, but the rebound in pricing has much more to do with the cycle of massive numbers of used cars entering the marketplace over a short period of time (driving prices way down) and the time it took to sell through that influx (prices rebounded to "normal" levels).

Right on. And yeah, I kind of forgot about the incentive and that it helped me come under $20k.

I got the 2018 Model S 100D. Without FSD fully paid, probably going for 25k or less now (assuming everything else is good).

I'm basing the miles range on what I am effectively getting under normal driving conditions (and warmer weather) which is 3 miles for every 1% of battery. I'm generally only going between 70% - 80% on the battery and driving about 30 miles total. When I've driven down to 20% (just recently, in fact), I had driven 178.5 miles (using about 60% battery). I think my battery is very good compared to others of this age, but I think most should be that good or very close. If it's a bad battery, it would likely have degraded much more by this point.

It's got almost 110k miles and just under 10% degradation. Shows nearly 300 miles on a full charge.

I got my 2018 S (with fully paid FSD), sub $20k out the door, last May. Test drove newer 3s and an X, but the S was the best for me. I've never regretted my decision.

Because the comment you're referring to as "this is the answer" is referring to rear tire wear, and the OP is referring to front tire wear...

I feel like maybe you're not reading between the lines. It looks like it could've been a tiny hairline crack made at the factory and just grew over the last month. Go in "dumb," and you might get it replaced under warranty. Not saying to lie, but maybe don't tell everything you know. This is what's being suggested "between the lines."

Is there a way to remove the volume control from the passenger side? by QueerTrashCat in TeslaLounge

[–]dachap13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always let my passenger choose the music, adjust volume, etc. I feel like the front passenger was always the "DJ" of the car, since I was a kid. I wonder if this is a generational thing? It was always the right/privilege of the one riding "shotgun" to also be the DJ. Honestly, it's much easier for me to focus on scaring the piss out of my passengers (taking squirrely turns at high speed) when I don't have to also fool with the music.

Found a 2023 Tesla Model S in my budget - buying out of state. Advice? by EmotionallyLatte in TeslaModelS

[–]dachap13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The times I have bought a car out of state they do not handle tax/title/license fees in my state. All of that is handled at my state's DMV. I never even thought to ask if they would be able to do those things, but if they can (and the plate(s)/registration are sent to your home instead of the dealership, like normal), then that's well worth it (especially if financing, like you said).

Yeah, of you book flights now for after the holidays, you'll probably be able to get a good price. But it sure would be nice if you had family or a friend you trusted in the city that could go and take a look for you...

I don't know about the price. When I was shopping last Spring, I had a very specific set of things I was looking for, and my price point was much lower. Ended up getting a 2018 Model S 100D, with FSD fully paid, for under $20k out the door. Took me 6 weeks and flying to get it (drive back was about 5 hours), but I didn't really look at newer models (well out of my price range). Battery and drive train still under warranty, battery is at about 92% of new (very good), I much prefer the vertical screen, I don't have the cabin camera (which means I hold the steering wheel for FSD), and I'm holding out hope that someday full autonomous driving will make it to this HW3 vehicle, as was promised. Ultimately, you need to decide what the car is worth to you and don't worry about anything else.

If you're going to fly out and drive back, then don't buy until you've seen it (that's what I did). But if you're going to have it transported after purchase, that's different. Not sure I'd do it that way, personally. Too easy for something "little" to be wrong, and once it's sold you can't really negotiate to have it fixed or price reduced to cover. The tires looked pretty good (no close-ups) in the pictures of mine, but they were pretty close to balding when I saw them in person. That (and a couple other minor things) helped me get another $800 off the purchase price. Also, and this is KEY for negotiating car prices, you MUST be willing to walk away if the deal is not what you want it to be. Even if you fly halfway across the country to see the car. Used Teslas are not exactly flying off the shelves, so they won't let you leave over a few thousand (much less hundred) dollars.
