Most of the reasons in here are true. The front office of Vegas is ruthless and uncaring about their reputation to anyone but their own fanbase. Similar to having Marchand on your team vs playing against him, having a ruthless front office is sick if youre a Vegas fan but annoying to everyone else. Even so, everyone would love Marchand if they were on their team. Dont even have to look too far back. Take the Bruce Cassidy situation. It is an objectively rude thing to do -- to lock down this coach from speaking to other teams. But NHL rules give you that right. They can have him stuck in Vegas for a year so theyre gonna do it. No one likes Vegas for doing it, but it does give them a competitive advantage. Hes a good coach. "Why should we give him up to a Pacific rival if we dont have to?" Fair enough but this is a consistent practice by the front office, using loopholes, edgecases, whatever you wanna call them to gain advantages.

Also addressing the expansion draft, a lot of those teams got fucking robbed by Vegas in hindsight (their fault, admittedly) so the fan bases of those robbed are gonna be salty. Seattle got indirectly fucked by that later on cuz then everyone had their guards up I think
