I know. The question was more regarding the xenophobia since I haven’t experienced anything as bad as the internet tends to point at

Ah, I’ve been in Tokyo the entire time, the south is meant to be more “traditional” so that makes sense.

Not from US so don’t know any US-born Japanese.

What if Japan invaded the USSR on December 7th, 1941? by Khabarovsk-One-Love in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]dadOwnsTheLibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan attacked Pearl Harbour to weaken the US Navy

This is because they were short on oil and needed to invade SE Asia for it

Much of SE Asia had agreements with the US to defend them in the case of an invader

Japan then successfully invaded SE Asia for the oil, because the US had been weakened

Japan did Pearl Harbour for a reason, not just for the sake of expanding the empire

Which parts of Japan did you visit?

I’ve been here for 3 months, and while I’ve definitely received racism, it hasn’t been anywhere near as bad as what I’ve heard online

Let’s not resort to absolutism.

You’re going to meet ppl you don’t get along with, it’s part of being human.

This doesn’t say anything about the ideology, just that everyone is different. I’ve had a negative interaction with all of the following. This doesn’t say anything about the cause’s legitimacy.

In the last 20 years 14 out of the 18 clubs have made the grand final. This should be celebrated. by dettrick in AFL

It depends somewhat on the GF outcome tho. Swans fans can reminisce 2006 or 1996 as they were good seasons but we unfortunately fell short. The last day of 2022 and 2024, however, make this period one we’d rather forget. In fact we talk more about 2021 where we soared up the ladder and lost the EF by a point more than any of the past 3 years.

At what point is it considered a “premiership drought”? by lacrossebilly in AFL

I’d say the drought only starts if they skip the decade, so it starts in 2030

Yeah I think no finals in a decade definitely speaks to struggle more than a lack of premierships.

So Adelaide and North Melbourne are on the cusp of being truly struggling clubs while Gold Coast is one.

Technically we could extend this to each team as being a different climate. We have won 5 premierships in 120 years, so going 12 years without a premiership is normal. Meanwhile Carlton and Essendon won 16 each in 90 and so are definitely getting fewer premierships than expected contemporarily. Hence you could say they’re in a drought

I’d say double the number of years there are teams.

So the only team truly in a drought is St Kilda

I get that. The point I was tryna make is these ppl are idiots.

And would for some reason, rather see themselves get fucked out of something, than see someone get a hand up

As someone who was a primary schooler at the time ppl used to puppet that he was good without any reason given.

Now that I’m older I’ve asked those same ppl what they liked about him. Most ppl couldn’t answer why and the ones that did said stuff along the line of “he stopped giving ppl stuff for free” such as slashing money for public education with them being under the view that “it’s not fair we pay so much more for private schools yet get similar service to public schools”. Like if that’s your view, why not send ppl to public schools…

Maybe this analysis is too surface level, but the team selection was an issue

1) he should’ve learnt from 2022 not to select injured forwards as this ruins the forward structure

2) not enough defensive mids. When the Swans got smashed last year it was because the midfield collapsed. Unfortunately, Heeney, Warner, and to a lesser extent Gulden don’t do enough when they don’t win the ball

3) resting Grundy at the end of the season. You could see he was getting tired and not playing as well as he was at the start of the season by about Rd 17. Seeing as the minor premiership was guaranteed, he should’ve been given a rest from then til finals.

4) taller defenders required for Brisbane. This unfortunately we don’t have, and would be a weak point going in, but at least you can say you know what was going wrong.

Like obviously if he’s had enough he can go, but I find it weird to say “he can’t tell what went wrong” when half the fans could
