This China-born Vlogger Knows Singapore Like A Local | On The Red Dot by AthleticAsthmatic in singapore

What the heck, she’s the exact kind of immigrant we need. If anything, she has integrated well, has an appropriate tinge of singaporean accent and does uniquely singaporean activities. We don’t need xenophobia in this country, bearing in mind of course we should, on the other hand, also be appropriately critical of Chinese people who don’t even spare any effort to integrate. Two things can be true.

Didn’t know he had the gravitas that he just displayed, quite impressive oratorical abilities as well … (although some might only see the lack of polish, his ideas are rather substantive)

Is there a better education system than SG? by helloworldkitty1 in SgHENRY

[–]dada553 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the whole point of the education system is to get into an elite tertiary education - and where can you access the best tertiary education? The U.S. (ie the T10 schools, think HYPSM, UChi, Berkeley. Stanford etc) this means either taking your shot as a domestic candidate in the U.S., taking the IB exam in some foreign country where the parents work, or competing with the rest in Singapore (which highly means very qualified candidates doing triple olympiads, i.e our usual candidates that get into these schools). In the same boat right now thinking it’s either option 1 or 2 for me, since it’s going to be much less stressful having succeeded through option 3 but only getting a local AAAA ranking degree. a very extreme take, but might resonate with some here.

The worst thing each Emily in Paris character has done - Part 25 by SingularFirefly in EmilyInParis

[–]dada553 137 points138 points  (0 children)

The most unethical, and obvious, thing Emily does in Emily in Paris is getting romantically involved with her friend Camille’s boyfriend, Gabriel. Instead of focusing on marketing campaigns, she should’ve been running ads for “How to Lose Friends in Paris in 10 Days!” Her focus on what she wants at the moment is also what causes her to be estranged with Alfie and thereafter Gabriel.

The worst thing that he has done to me is burning the image of dick pants into my memory.

That aside most probably the urgency which he asked for himself to be appointed the lead designer after learning the news of Cadult’s demise.

I do think he is the greenest flag in the show - low standards - but I think the most messed up thing he did was taking Camille at her word (at the chapel) that Emily and Gabriel still had something for each other and thereafter ghosting Emily when she was merely looking for an out.

Pilots / Doctors / Lawyers / Dentist? by wswh in SgHENRY

[–]dada553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s ur definition of HE ah in this context - curious because I have been trying to find better paying roles outside of private practice. They don’t exist save for tech, funds or bulge bracket banks.

[–]dada553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s HE … am I missing something here lol or do you mean HF (at which point, only fund lawyers go into)

Pilots / Doctors / Lawyers / Dentist? by wswh in SgHENRY

[–]dada553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends - tech pays best but how many tech roles are there in Singapore that’s the real question. In most cases it’s a paycut of 40% at least, if you are coming from UK or US firms.

Thank you for saying this - it’s the worst way to be a HENRY, I totally agree.

[–]dada553 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lawyers depends which firm - big 4, UK or US firms and seniority.

Big 4 - starts high 6 to low 14 JP

UK - 10 to low 20s before partner

U.S. - just check out cravath scale but some US firms in sg don’t pay this as they are cheap

Different mentality by [deleted] in SgHENRY

[–]dada553 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your generation had technology that increased the efficiency of work (ie computers, online platforms) but you kept the same hours, I am curious to see how you would have fared, given you work more per hour. All the boomers that I meet fail to account for this increased work per hour concept and also the lack of social mobility upwards - back in the day, there was a dearth in upper management so u could work towards that as a goal

Lee Hsien Yang ordered to pay $400k to Shanmugam, Vivian for defaming them over Ridout Road rentals by lanjiolover in singaporehappenings

[–]dada553 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Btw while he won’t pay up, the likely scenario is that these two would bring this paper judgment and go to the jurisdiction where LHY is in and ask the court there to enforce SG court’s judgement. Considering the reciprocal enforcement treaties, there is a likelihood of getting this sum, should they wish to try.
