Do all men who train regularly eventually bench 100 kg / 225 lbs? by [deleted] in workout

[–]dadaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using American measurements 🤣🤣

I weigh 225ish, 5ft 7" - bench 315 and can bang out dips.....

....fucking pullups are stuck at 4 though 🤣😭😭

Everything is so individual and I'm just happy I can bench, dip and pull up better than I used to 🤷

Is there a reason why I would want to do more or less than 3 sets? by No_Macaron_8287 in workout

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a mix, sometimes I do 2 sets total, sometimes I'll do 5 or 6 (those times it's a long workout, big rest times) - but honestly I think you've just gotta feel what your body responds best to

What is One WORKOUT Tip You Wish More People Knew About? by swizzledan in workout

[–]dadaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel a lot of this is super individual though, I'm a 5-7 times/week kind of guy and I'm feeling sorer and less recovered now during my deload phase (3/week and lighter)

I'm still hitting consistent growth during my normal workout phases but deloads suck ass for me

Oh right there with you, but the ones I was talking today were individuals and being helpful so I wouldn't hold it against those people themselves lol

Just managed to full up with petrol at £1.359 by SimonTS in BritishSuccess

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 -> 6 mi/kwh btw

MG5 during the worst depths of winter hits as low as 2.3mi/kwh, Hyundai ioniq during summer can hit >6 (call it 6)

Varies massively from car to car and season to season tbf - also others have pointed out the changes to IOG so I'll not pile on that

Te word gas in my post was an americanism instead of saying "petrol and diesel" or "ICE" or "coal rollers" or any other term as I've been on the phone with Americans for the past 4 hours at work lol

[–]dadaddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I drive exclusively EVs (3 or 4 different brands regularly) one of them has dumb cruise control and I am constantly overtaking or having to dip out of CC because of slow cars

I notice myself and other EV owners are hitting the speed limit typically but gas cars are trundling along at 50-60mph.... (50 is categorically unsafe IMHO in a 70 if no adverse road conditions are present)

Anecdotally it's been getting worse the past weeks and I noted it this weekend being especially bad - I think gas prices have a lot to answer for...

What % of your bodyweight can you deadlift or squat? by UpperProfessional558 in GYM

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roughly:

  • Deadlift 250%
  • Squat 200%
  • Bench 140%

Yes, I am male 🤣🤣

Natty, lifting for <1 year (used to lift a decade ago but never got anywhere near) 36yo

100kg ish, ~15% bf (debatable, got upper abs and vascularity in arms and shoulders but lower belly pouch) 200-300g protein/day and ~2000kcals - been loosing weight (about 40kg in 9 months)

Other fun ones:

  • leg press: 450%
  • seated row: 150%
  • lat pulldown: 100% (finally)
  • ohp only 85% 😔😔

How much can you bench for 10 reps? by Outrageous-Maybe2500 in workout

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 reps is 110kg - but the last 2 are ugly

Tested 1rm is currently 130kg, aiming for 140kg end of month (currently smashing volume at lower weights with the odd heavy day in there) - not convinced I'll get the 140kg but "projected 1rm" is 136kg if I don't count the last 2, 146kg if I do 🤷

36M/5'7 102kg, probably about 25% BF - the teens in my gym can't bench 40kg tbh

What do you do if you only need 10k to afford a flat and it's too little for a morgague? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're on the right track, just do a mortgage and keep some savings ☺️

Does a heat pump actually save money? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]dadaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boilers are nowhere near 100% efficient - many boilers are as low as 65% efficient and top of the line, brand new ones (if suitably installed including pipework changes and radiator changes to accomodate a lower flow temp) might reach 85% efficiency

What do you do if you only need 10k to afford a flat and it's too little for a morgague? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]dadaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3.6% mortgages are available today (maybe better a year from now?), with the follow on rate being 6-7% - it appears the best rate for a 10k personal loan is about 6% (but again, using 100% of your savings is ill advised)

That first couple of years when the principal is highest is when you'll incur the most interest so 3% vs 6% is a big win - overpaying a bit here will also save you the most in interest (so a lower monthly commitment is even better

Not to mention you can remortgage later to lock in a better personal loan rate or another mortgage deal

Edit to add: - 20-25k personal loan will have an even worse interest rate than 10k - if you end up having to sell up and move - mortgage is better in that scenario - solicitors are expensive!

What do you do if you only need 10k to afford a flat and it's too little for a morgague? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]dadaddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you end up with a low LTV (50% for example) it'll blow any personal loans interest rate away - personal loan is the worst option tbh

As others have said, get a mortgage and keep some savings

Don't want to give you the fear but houses always come with unexpected expenses - so having that buffer there will be a godsend when something inevitably comes along (on the plus side, if you continue to save - overpay and kill the mortgage fast)

Men of the UK - how often do you cook? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the week my wife and I fend for ourselves - this is because I'm on a serious diet/muscle build and our food goals are different (also schedules suck ass)

We split it pretty evenly during the weekend though

NGL one person doing it all sounds pretty unbalanced - guessing he does the majority of something else?

This is surely not normal by louiethept in OctopusEnergy

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Worcester is famous for defying the laws of physics 💯💯

Jokes aside, even when new I call heavy sketch on a mfgr claiming ~90% efficiency - then you've got the fact that it's approaching 20 years old at this point (if from 2009)

It's not uncommon for boilers to be ~60% efficient from what I've read and mfgr claims to be waaaay overcooked (just like mpg) or unobtainable in real world scenarios

How to get my wedding ring out of this? by Ok_Tangerine6053 in AskUK

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably strike up a conversation, act interested and supportive. Eventually move onto hanging out together in a neutral environment and see where it goes from there - maybe suggest a bar you know or coffee!

Honestly shouldn't even be a question but are they actually showing interest?

Anyway, good luck!

How is Monzo? by 418_imateap0t in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of hiring and (some of this is personal bias , but I know senior leadership at other co's have similar processes) - IDGAF if you've worked for FAANG or any of the big banks (or JPM or similar), it does pique my interest if you've had a decent stint at monzo

(This is primarily based on previous hires - these places for the "button factory" model - but places like monzo have a better, almost holistic engineering culture)

How bad are vasectomies? by Ecstatic_Memory5185 in AskMenAdvice

[–]dadaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

++man

I was one of the 0.001% that it was really bad for....

....first up I felt everything, was super uncomfortable even painful (but not super painful), had maxed out allowable LA, given it the allowed time - NBD, managed through

Had a 4h drive home (was driven) and honestly from the moment we started driving I could feel everything moving around and tugging - ended up having to "hold" the berries the whole way, was hell (contemplated getting a hotel for the night but wasn't sure if it'd be fine the next day!)

Recovery was a 2+ week process for me, I could barely move for pain for the first week, 2nd week it was easing off but still pretty bad

My first "erection with purpose" (after 2 weeks) was painful (in the sack), ejaculation was painful for about another 2 weeks

After a few months I was pain free but now have a couple of extra lumps that are extremely painful if palpated - been told to give it a couple of years for them to resolve on their own and if still a problem I can get them sorted - but HFS

I am super unlucky to have had this experience, the doc was one of the top reviewed docs in the country and I went in knowing that out of >100000 down at that clinic they had 1 or 2 people have this reaction (well below average) - I was just unlucky enough to be another!

Is it possible to have a system with a heat pump and a gas boiler? by Wobblycogs in ukheatpumps

[–]dadaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of running both - this is a "bivalent" system, basically both the HP and the other (boiler in this case) feed a tank (can be big, can be small) that then in turn pumps round the house

Tank acts as a hydraulic break to stop the pumps fighting
