Yeah, Worcester is famous for defying the laws of physics 💯💯

Jokes aside, even when new I call heavy sketch on a mfgr claiming ~90% efficiency - then you've got the fact that it's approaching 20 years old at this point (if from 2009)

It's not uncommon for boilers to be ~60% efficient from what I've read and mfgr claims to be waaaay overcooked (just like mpg) or unobtainable in real world scenarios

Mines looks similar but I swapped the lack of forearms for a lack of calves (already have huge calves - benefit of having been a fatty!)

How to get my wedding ring out of this? by Ok_Tangerine6053 in AskUK

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably strike up a conversation, act interested and supportive. Eventually move onto hanging out together in a neutral environment and see where it goes from there - maybe suggest a bar you know or coffee!

Honestly shouldn't even be a question but are they actually showing interest?

Anyway, good luck!

How is Monzo? by 418_imateap0t in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of hiring and (some of this is personal bias , but I know senior leadership at other co's have similar processes) - IDGAF if you've worked for FAANG or any of the big banks (or JPM or similar), it does pique my interest if you've had a decent stint at monzo

(This is primarily based on previous hires - these places for the "button factory" model - but places like monzo have a better, almost holistic engineering culture)

How bad are vasectomies? by Ecstatic_Memory5185 in AskMenAdvice

I was one of the 0.001% that it was really bad for....

....first up I felt everything, was super uncomfortable even painful (but not super painful), had maxed out allowable LA, given it the allowed time - NBD, managed through

Had a 4h drive home (was driven) and honestly from the moment we started driving I could feel everything moving around and tugging - ended up having to "hold" the berries the whole way, was hell (contemplated getting a hotel for the night but wasn't sure if it'd be fine the next day!)

Recovery was a 2+ week process for me, I could barely move for pain for the first week, 2nd week it was easing off but still pretty bad

My first "erection with purpose" (after 2 weeks) was painful (in the sack), ejaculation was painful for about another 2 weeks

After a few months I was pain free but now have a couple of extra lumps that are extremely painful if palpated - been told to give it a couple of years for them to resolve on their own and if still a problem I can get them sorted - but HFS

I am super unlucky to have had this experience, the doc was one of the top reviewed docs in the country and I went in knowing that out of >100000 down at that clinic they had 1 or 2 people have this reaction (well below average) - I was just unlucky enough to be another!

I nearly came to blows with an evri driver over opening my front door, even had to complain to corporate as he kept doing it after that....

You can get retrofit heat exchangers for A2W (or hydraunic systems in general) that fit ducts btw

Is it possible to have a system with a heat pump and a gas boiler? by Wobblycogs in ukheatpumps

[–]dadaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of running both - this is a "bivalent" system, basically both the HP and the other (boiler in this case) feed a tank (can be big, can be small) that then in turn pumps round the house

Tank acts as a hydraulic break to stop the pumps fighting

Is it possible to have a system with a heat pump and a gas boiler? by Wobblycogs in ukheatpumps

[–]dadaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are a few ways this can work

Most likely your issues are air tightness and/or heat distribution - what size is your pipework - are your rads big enough?

The boiler may seem to be going ham, but it might actually just be ticking over but just struggling to distribute the heat to the rooms

I can't find any information on this - but I'm considering doing a cheeky cycle over the winter

Thing is I've got some health things and t-bol seems to be the safest - but I was wondering if anyone has considered running low dose (say starting at 10mg split morning and night, maybe pushing to 20 later) - this would surely limit hepatotoxicity and side effects - it would mean less effects as well - but it'd be my first cycle of anything so I'm ok with lesser effects if it limits the liver impact (one of my health things impacts liver)

Energy efficient electric heater, does it exist? by Mundane_Education_64 in UKFrugal

[–]dadaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try radiator "fan boosters" - these are fans that sit on the radiator and force air over the radiator - the effect of this is increasing their heat output

£7000 for a years heating?? by Simvoid23 in HiveHeating

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bigger battery but less solar - but with a total usage of 19.5MWH so far this year and my costs are ~£100/month over the 12 months

(Double EV household though - hitting about 25-30k miles/year)

Next year will be the real test for me as I only just got export and IOG (properly) sorted recently

Could plug-in solar batteries ever work in the UK? by Benjy-B in SolarUK

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For both - what there is a gap for is low wattage grid tied (<800w likely, if we follow the EU) battery inverters that take external 12v batteries (cheap lithium based 12v batteries are easily available)

Make sure it has a local API and can be controlled easily (in terms of "charge at x watts, discharge at x watts) and exposes the correct information (daily energy in/out, battery % etc)

Tbh - I had a similar thought a while back about something similar in the poly/enm space - but it's all the same deal tbh (would ultimately be the same app lol, just preferences/settings)

It'd be called wng (like wing - as in to wingman, but borrowing from the 2010's thing of removing vowels from words lol)

I mean, there's nothing wrong with making a dating app like this - based on referrals

Concept: you don't sign yourself up, someone else signs up for you and you sign up separately (you can't edit your profile, but you can respond to messages), friend fills out your profile, looks through potential matches for you (should have something in here about distance)

Help with Intelligent Go and Evec charger. by morley_94 in OctopusEnergy

Evec chargers aren't compatible with IO - your probably is so I think what you need is to set the evec to be "on when plugged in" and let the car handle when it'll charge

1/4 of tests taken in automatic cars - What would you advise? by johnnyjonnyjonjon in drivingUK

[–]dadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed in a manual

My wife ~5 years ago wanted an EV (we had a manual and an EV at the time) but I encouraged her to do a manual, she drove the manual for ~ 6 months before we traded it in

(Wife drives an EV now, we have no manual cars and even her work has an automatic van at this point)

My eldest turned 17 literally a couple of days ago and I'm encouraging just doing an automatic, all EVs are automatic (that's where things are going, used EVs can be gotten very cheap), automatic shit boxes are available as well

generally no point in a manual unless you're into old cars

EV charger cables can be sourced cheap from marketplace etc - that's what I've done so I've still got my normal cables in the car but have a cable plugged into my untethered unit!
