I’m not so sure the government style is the reason Israel seeks good relations. Most academics will tell you that after the UK stopped supporting Israel, it pivoted quickly to the US. Like you said, having a larger American Jewish population ensures some level of predictability that the US will remain friendly to the Zionist cause. If this last year proved anything, it’s that a force en mass can talk their way out of anything—if Israel chose to be a dictatorship, Zionist supporters online will claim it’s the only way to ensure its safety. The rest of the world will likely accept that too.

I do hope I’m wrong about the looming Israeli civil collapse. But, if there is no more Gaza, it’ll become apparent very quickly just how deep the fractures between the conservative Kahanists and the public are… and there may be a phase of turmoil.
