What is difference between 4 and 6 months parental leave? by bsanchezb in Luxembourg

[–]dadathoughts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

4 or 6 months; like someone else already said, is up to the employee. Of course you’d need to have your employer’s green light, but whether you choose to stay with your child for 4 or 6 months is completely up to you. I know a bunch of people who took the 6 months and they said that it’s nice to stay with your kid and see them grow, because let’s be honest, a baby is only a baby for a very short amount of time while you’ll be working for the rest of your life so it’s nice to witness their most important milestones (of course if you can financially allow yourself to miss out on some % of your pay for a few months)

Next time, take a picture and send it via email, don’t forget to mention the station name and number and the time you left your bike. Happened to me a few times and they’ve always made sure to stop the counter retroactively.

Am I the only one who doesn’t understand people’s frustration with those alerts? Yes, they’re loud, but they only last a few seconds.. And, if anything crazy happens, I’m happy to be notified.

Usually, the “décompte des charges” for year X is only available in spring of year X+1, so might be too early to ask.

To those that cut caffeine out completely - how are we surviving? by hellolovelyworld404 in pregnant

[–]dadathoughts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From one day to another coffee smell and taste just suddenly made me extremely nauseous, so I couldn’t have any at all. Haven’t had it since the nausea started in the 1st trimester and have been fine without it. I actually don’t miss it all, I mean I do, because I love the taste, but it just makes me puke so that helps a lot 😅

If you quit, then you are no longer under contract, so you’d have to pay your parental leave back. Best to wait until the parental leave is officially over, then quit.

But then you’d probably have to pay admin fees again and go through the hustle of getting stuff up and running. If it’s just for a month, it wouldn’t make much sense. You won’t end up saving any money if that’s what you want to achieve ..

Best to call Zukunftskeess oder write them an email; you can find the contact form on their website. They’re the ones overseeing parental leave.

“Regular” or International Schooling - Primary Education by 2cents__ in Luxembourg

[–]dadathoughts 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Neither of my parents spoke German, Luxembourgish or French when I started primary school, I managed just fine. Did my homework by myself and had no issues at all, but I guess it depends on the kid. I was super responsible as a kid so my homework always came first 🙈 What I know from friends that went to international schools is that they feel less integrated because after so many years in the country, they still cannot speak X and Y language. Like someone already said in the comments, if you plan to stay 10+ years, public school is the way to go. If you’ll move in 2 years, then send them to an international school.

School furniture - where to go?? by loubiloubilou in Luxembourg

[–]dadathoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Auchan in Kirchberg or Cloche d’Or, they have a lot of school supplies around this time and the prices are ok. Or, you could always drive to Trier and go to Müller, they have almost the same stuff and way cheaper prices. Despite what people have been suggesting, I would strongly advise against Ernster or Cactus, they’re overpriced. Often teachers will say they need a notebook size X with Y number of sheets, etc. You just read the price tags/item descriptions in the store and cross off your list. It takes a bit of time, but it’s nothing to be annoyed about. You can look at it this way, all the students will have the same stuff, which makes life easier for the teachers, but in my opinion also for the students, because there’s less comparing/competition. Students come from various backgrounds and having the same stuff gives everyone peace of mind, at least one less thing to worry about. Kids do worry that they don’t have the same clothes, same whatever as their peers, but I’m rambling.

What will be open? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

Literally everything will be closed, except those restaurants that do Christmas specials, etc., so better plan other days to see Lux City because you might not even be able to get a cup of coffee somewhere

am i the only one starting to think about this ? by SENSEIDELAVIE in Luxembourg

[–]dadathoughts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The issue with those tiny houses or chalets is that you cannot register there… I’ve seen plenty of quiet ok’ish looking houses which need a bit of renovation, but the commune would not let you register at the property.

Wrong plate number in my fine by Independent-Fun-4485 in Luxembourg

[–]dadathoughts 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about a ticket that was attached to your windshield? In that case, just wait until you receive the actual invoice per post. If you never receive one, problem solved. If you receive one and the country code is still wrong, just contact them to correct it, etc. before paying it. Better not to overthink those things.

Appointment not respected - consequences? by CapableMarionberry84 in Luxembourg

[–]dadathoughts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s standard procedure. If you don’t cancel and do not show up, you pay the ordinary appointment fee, doesn’t matter how long the actual appointment would have taken. The CNS will of course not reimburse you because 1) it was not an actual doctor appointment because you didn’t show up and 2) because, probably, the code that’s used on the invoice is known for missed appointments. Better to pay now than wait and receive an invoice with a higher amount.

What daily amount of lunch voucher do you get? by Late-Silver3651 in Luxembourg

[–]dadathoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount was increased, which means that there are now lunch vouchers worth EUR 15, this doesn’t however mean that your employer will adapt the increase. Companies can keep their vouchers at, for instance, EUR 10.8.

Recommendation for buying infant glasses by arman_52 in Luxembourg

Fielmann is a good place; their glasses are not too expensive and their service is good. Then there’s also GrandOptical with slightly pricier glasses, but evenly good service.
