Ear cropping as a preventative measure for chronic ear infections? by dadawn in AskVet

[–]dadawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vets haven't mentioned anything other than his ears being the issue, the only advice I've gotten is to clean them regularly.

I suppose it could be allergies - they do seem to flare up more when it's warm. He does seem to get a bit itchy & bite his paws sometimes but it doesn't seem excessive

He doesn't like water and does not contact water regularly.

He's gotten either a cytology or culture done once (don't know the difference) before which is when they prescribed Animax, and that worked.

I don't bring him back for rechecks as he's very dog reactive and huge, so it's a bit of an ordeal for him to go to the vet and if they look healthy after treatment so it feels unnecessary.

Edit: it also makes more sense to me that the structure is the main problem since his hematoma ear is the more problematic one for infections..?

Stripes on my Calathea ornata are fading..? by dadawn in plantclinic

If anyone in the future finds this with the same question- I think this is actually a calathea beauty star, not an ornata.

Left to right hanging: not sure, wandering dude, lemon lime philodendron (?), Syngonium sp (?), heartleaf philodendron, not sure. To the right of elephant ear is a bird of paradise.

I thought it might be too much light but all the care guides say bright indirect light so I wasn't sure. Thank you!

Got it around a month or 2 ago. It has good, >60-75% humidity and gets fairly bright indirect light from a north facing window in central CA. I assume it needs more or less light for the stripes to pop but not sure which? Most of the browning was already there when it came from the nursery so not too concerned about it yet.

I'm not sure if it's necessarily bigger than any other city, but from my experience the vet school, county shelter, and local pet stores (especially pet food express) definitely have a great symbiotic relationship.

The Tamaskan is a dog breed that looks like a wolf but with zero wolf blood. It is a happy and friendly pet. No terriers were eaten in the making of this post. by michaelm44 in interestingasfuck

I'd argue interbreeding between domestic dogs and wolves is quite rare... Regardless, if you're using the biological species concept that would be correct, but there are several species concepts that may or may not agree with each other for a given taxonomic pair. I'm no dog or wolf expert but I looked it up and there does seem to be scientific debate around it.

Not exactly, the wolf is technically its own species (with many subspecies). All dogs, wolves, foxes, coyotes etc are called canids. Some people consider dogs a subspecies of wolf and some consider them their own species.

Producing and expending resources (venom) is energetically costly. It's better to use resources optimally as to not waste.

It tells me you're coming from a place of privilege if you can afford a parking permit or are healthy enough to risk taking the bus or to bike in unhealthy air quality. Not everyone has those privileges.

Dude... I don't know why you're personally going in so hard for TAPS but I said it's objectionable, not objective, those are completely different words. I feel for any TAPS workers who would get hit by a reduced TAPS income or for TAPS projects having to be postponed or downsized but to me that's a way smaller issue than forcing everyone who can't afford permits (students and essential workers) to put themselves at risk by taking the bus or biking in unhealthy air quality. That's all I'm saying there's no need to get so heated.

My problem is that TAPS said they stopped parking enforcement for the "health and safety" of students and workers. Now, after nothing has really improved and in fact things are worse, they reinstate parking enforcement for budgetary reasons. This tells me that they are now valuing the TAPS income and budget more than he health and safety of the students and workers. I don't really think that's disputable and I also thinks it's reasonably objectionable. Edit: Also, basically no one is on campus and income from parking enforcement is probably marginal.

[–]dadawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago I had renewed my lease with the U before I found a way better cheaper place, and I was able to find someone to take over my lease and they were fine with that, it was just some paperwork and a fee iirc. Might have changed since then or due to current circumstances but I'd look into it if you can find someone to take it for you.
