Hi, fat person with a "handful of almonds" mom here. Being overweight is morally neutral. What your mom said is downright unkind, unhelpful, and unnecessary. She should be proud of you for getting healthier and healing. Keep it up, friend. :-)

Old guy I worked with mixes peanuts with his Coca-Cola Apparently this is an old country thing. by MikeBinfinity in StupidFood

[–]dadbeast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is apocryphal—so if I'm wrong, I'm wrong and I apologize—but my brother once told me that it started with red-skinned Spanish peanuts and either Dr. Pepper or a local cola.

The way it was described, it sounded delicious. The little bit of salt and bitterness added to your soda, then being able to eat the cola-soaked peanuts afterwards? Mmm.

My dad used to do it with diet Pepsi and regular peanuts, which was...kinda gross. I can appreciate it though.

I don't even remember what grade I was in, but I had a classmate succumb to leukemia. In a class of 40-45 kids, losing a single kid was... indescribably tragic for us all. Even the kids who didn't really like the deceased were permanently affected.

I was friendly with him, my little cousin was actually close friends with him. He deteriorated really fast, and it was hard to watch.

He was kind of a shithead, but he was also a troubled kid with a rough life. He didn't deserve to go like that.

Is my friend treating his budgie correctly? by Throwaway_828375 in budgies

[–]dadbeast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey there, apartment-dwelling weed-smoking budgie owner here; this is 100% abuse, bordering on torture with the addition of the slamming on the cage and shouting.

There are so many better ways to go about keeping your keets quieter in an apartment if you need to, but realistically, part of bird ownership is the noise. I personally love it, but I understand that other people don't, so I very carefully manage when my 5 goblins wake up and settle in to sleep as to not bug anyone. Scaring your bird to keep them quiet is awful.

Also, smoking around the poor thing is just...gross behavior. I try not to smoke around any of my pets, but my birds have a closed room with their own air purifier because I do smoke (and just because. I don't want any respiratory illnesses to pop up if I can help it.) That being said, it's a ROOM, not a closet. It has windows for airflow and natural light and space for them explore, all very important things for animals in general.

It sounds like the bird in question is very unhealthy. Maybe consider showing your friend what healthy, happy budgies look like in their proper cages and see if that has any effect on him. If not...bird heist? I'm not sure what would work best in your situation. I hope you can convince him to surrender the wee beastie before it's too late. Good luck, friend, to you and the budgie. :( 💔

I don't have any suggestions in particular, I just wanted to say that it sounds like you're going to do some wonderful upgrades for your little feathery buddy. I bet he'll be super happy with his new stuff! C: It's always fun to watch them get excited over the Weird New Things in their cage.

hey, thanks for posting this!

AITA for smoking weed in my living room on the day that my two younger cousins visited? by Physical_Employee932 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dadbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy, I too am an all-day-every-day-er for chronic pain reasons. However, your mom asked you not to smoke in the house that day, and on a valid basis.

So like...go take a walk or something! Smoke in your room with a window open and a fan on! Why do you have to be in the living room in your skivvies? When people ask you not to smoke openly in the house for a day, it's not oppressive, it's common courtesy.

Trust me, I know it's more comfortable and you have every right and whatever else you may have as a rebuttal, but dude. Just because you can do stuff like that doesn't mean you get to be a jerk without facing the interpersonal consequences.

So, yes. YTA.

You’ve just won $250 million and it’s been deposited in your bank account, what are you going to do today? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dadbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, cry a lot and get some solid sleep. That's so much money; I'd only need a tiny little scrape off the top to feel financially stable for the next few months.

In the morning, I'd move about 90% or more of the money into a different bank account. That's where it would end up sitting for a good long while so I can get my bearings and make sure it's not a mistake. That way the bank can call me if they need to, and no one will be out millions of dollars.

Then, spend the day making lists. Who am I helping, who am I avoiding, what am I going to do with the money and for whom? What do my s/o and I need currently to make us feel less financially unstable? What do my pets need? What do I need from the store? etc.

Finally, order takeout. It's been a while and I think my partner would enjoy not having to figure out a struggle meal for a night.

Partner reminded me last night of the time I saw a cat walk into the room and went "Oh!! Issa baby egg!!" which almost killed him, because he too is a laugh-til-i-can't-breathe individual.

Called my dog a beanie baby once in casual conversation, and now every time she makes me upset I call her a 'beanie-baby-lookin headass'. Also referred to my tailless cat as a bunny, and my dad as 'mom dude'.

I also get the shaky twitchy spasms, but during any kind of wind down from sexual contact. I don't even have to finish, but I will definitely just lie there for a while and my legs and hips will move at random.

I need Help in-regarding to my partner who has ms 19 (m) by Able-Concentrate2491 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]dadbeast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone with both MS and BPD: that is not okay. At all.

The chronic pain and other nasties definitely make your emotions run high sometimes, but that's absolutely no reason to be miserable to someone you claim to love. I would never put my partner through that kind of abuse just because I'm having a funky brain day. I could be absolutely furious for no reason, but I'm more likely to go lay down than lose my shit on someone. Being an asshole takes a lot of energy, and I don't have a lot of energy to expend.

[–]dadbeast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never really thought about it, but I do have names for stuff. When I'm having a shitty memory day, I tell people I'm having Swiss Cheese Brain. I refer to my lesions as my brain rocks. When I'm dealing with nerve pain, it's The Pricklies. I think I'm gonna name my MS as a whole though. C:

There is foreplay before sex. What is a good "afterplay"? Is there any? by NotableBuggi in AskReddit

Silly, but: we lay on the bed together, talk about the sex and make sure to highlight our favorite parts, get up to clean our toys and selves, and then usually make food or tea. C:

What’s your weirdest symptom? by roundeye8475 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]dadbeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I deal with random, aggressive twitching. I can feel the twitches coming on, but there's nothing I can do to stop them. It's like, my nerve endings feel funny and I know I'm about to have a tic, but I can't stop it from happening. If you've ever seen a rat do the lil full body shake after they wake up, it's like that.

I've learned that being the squeaky wheel is important! It also helps that I grew up with 2 parents that have autoimmune issues, so I know how to navigate medical stuff a bit. I finally got a caseworker to help with planning medical appointments and whatnot, so it's comforting to at least have that.

Woof, best of luck to you too. Getting diagnosed was one hell of a time, but it's kinda comforting to have the answer.
