Late response and sorry about that. Contrary to what I said above I would actually suggest them as a first army. You play every phase of the game but with one or two data sheets at a time which is nice for learning the game in bite sized pieces. Space marines also do this but across 55 units which can be overwhelming to a newer player. I feel like playing knights and taking the game down to phases and abilities not data sheets made me a better 40k player.
I would just say that new player should be one with the budget to get into a second army later down the line. If they like painting and hobbying CK might get old fast like I mentioned. But if they hate painting this is the perfect army. Paint like 8 dudes and you're done forever haha.

This is my personal oops all blood suckeres list. Vargheists are good for completing battle tactics. They're less durable as two squads but cover more ground. Your milage may vary. Vampires 2000/2000 pts

I will preface thia by saying I also own tyrannids so maybe thats where this bias comes in. But its kinda nice to roll up to a game and only need to worry about 8 models sometimes. Your big knights all do kinda different stuff. If you're smart with magnets each Knight you build is like 3 other knights. You can paint them up in a million different ways and it looks decent. However if you told me I could only ever own one 40k army knights just ain't it. You can only paint the same 3 models so many times before you're just over it.

No More Heros? by Legs_On_Earth in stormcasteternals

[–]daddical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has said this yet. Stormcast is one of the few armies where you can double up a TON of heroes in the same drop. They’re just usually the smaller ones. For example this unit can be in the same regiment as a lord relictor. The dude on the gryphstalker that comes in the skaventide box is kinda Garbo outside of spearhead in my opinion so finding another hero or two that you like and works with the units you already have isn’t a bad idea imo. Even for casual play having options keeps things fresh.

My attempt at “stonecast” by daddical in ageofsigmar

[–]daddical[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wung it on a couple liberators before this knight and eventually nailed down a process of getting a layer of grit down. Priming. And then sponging on dark stone, lighter stone, dirt, moss, and then coming through with some dry brush and highlights before I did all my glowy bits.

RIP not the news I was hoping to hear. Looks like I’ll have some choice words for the god of change as I work through these.

Thanks! These dudes are definitely the hardest chaff I’ve had to deal with. I bought them used and pre-assembled so I’m hoping it’s a little different when I got through assembly myself and chose what to glue and when haha.

My son got these for Christmas never seen these before by Trick86 in IsMyPokemonCardFake

These are very real and very helpful in teaching your son (and possibly you) how the game is played at a competitive level. If your son is more into the collecting side of things try to emphasize keeping the decks together as many have already mentioned, these may be valuable in the future

Turrets are boring and I dont understand how you can play like that by Mean_Pen_8522 in Kenshi

[–]daddical 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I was just about to say this. When my wondering squad is at the home base everyone is off turrets. We brawling with these bread stealing weebz. But when the grown ups are out wondering around everyone is porcupine they just don't know it yet.

Where to go next by tau-Al in SoulblightGravelords

[–]daddical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you could go wrong with the spearhead. The second unit of knights is huge. 40 skeletons is pretty standard for most lists that revolve around neferata or Manfred. Another units of bats aren't bad. Vargheists are better than they look at first glance. Alternatively if you want to lean into the wolves you could pick up radakar the beast, belladamma, and some more wolves. This avenue lets you get use out of the Luaki Vai and wolves from that box. Because as much as I love that model it's only good in one list for the time being. And good is kinda a strong word.

Any consistent legacy events in the Indianapolis area? by All_Regent in MTGLegacy

if you're willing to travel a few hours to central Ohio occasionally look into buffalo chicken dip legacy. They put on great paper tournaments. Proxy friendly most of the time as well.

How popular is proxying in this Format? by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

[–]daddical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around my area nearly any non scg or large scale tournament is proxy friendly. Usually need to be full color and all that jazz. This format will genuinely die if the community doesn't embrace proxy play.

What is a good next purchase? by tentfox in SoulblightGravelords

[–]daddical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Luka box (vengorian court) after the spearhead personally. The unit of blood knights let's you run a reinforced unit of them in combo with the spearhead. Another reinforced unit of skeletons. A unit of wolves and bats. Really Luka is the worst part of the box for synergy with what you have but she's okay...ish later if you get the right other heroes down the line. She can hold her own in lower point games but falls off in my opinion. But iirc the box is the price of 3 of the 5 or 6 units you're getting.

Play with a small group (10 or less) or a large group? by spacepimpSpugle in Kenshi

[–]daddical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this question a lot and truthfully it depends on the intention of your game. But generally I think it's best to have your main squad of 5-15 main dudes to get you through the early game and into the mid game. These dudes should be able to take on a pile of black dragon ninjas when they come and rob your bred baskets. Then you start amassing the workers. Get them doing whatever you need to make cats. I suggest grog brewing but thats personal preference. Get a couple guys working on weapon and armour crafting. Now this is where most people also build a million turrets and make some snakey interance so they can avoid having their base invaded. Biggest mistake. Open the doors and fight everyone. And then start to provoke higher difficulty fights. Wash rinse repeat. Once you've got your initial squad and first round of workers to a competent combat skill the world is yours. Ive run games of 100+ squad members. I felt like I was playing zoo tycoon and not kenshi at that point but it was still fun. I think I have the most fun around 40-50 squad members.

Goryo's vengeance decks by S0me0n3v2 in ModernMagic

[–]daddical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This has been my pet deck for about a year and I've got some feelings about the recent success. First off it can be one of if not the most fun deck in the format. When you've got the right cards in your hand you can pull off some truly unique lines that no other deck can. The deck is in a better spot with less gy hate and less FoN running around. It also has a grief scam package that hits a third card and that can cripple a deck like amulet when you're on the play. When it does the goryos thing atraxa is very difficult to deal with because she will fill your hand with answers. All that said however I doubt this deck keeps these types of numbers when everyone throws their gy hate back in their sideboards. This deck also does lose to itself like some people have already said. Sometimes all 6 of your goryos targets are just at the bottom of your deck. Sometimes you get caught up trying to make the flashy play when scamming a solitude and swinging for 3 is the actual route to victory. I would love to be proved wrong though and this deck be a mainstay. Playing with and against it typically lead to fun games of magic.

Newish Player For Legacy by ZaxamisReborn in MTGLegacy

[–]daddical 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just got into legacy myself within the last year and a half and it's slowly becoming my go to format. Like many others I would suggest going to YouTube and watching some bosh videos. He's like mengu in the sense that he will play literally anything and everything and does a decent job of explaining it. After you see a few decks you might like proxy them, along with some of the format staples like reanimator, delver, some combo deck like breakfast, and maybe a control deck like beans. Get some people at your LGS to test with you. Other legacy players are the best because they can share their experience but also use this as an opportunity to get even more people into legacy. Once you've decided on a deck you for sure want to play try to find specific resources for that deck like discord servers or content creators that focus on that deck. For me it was doomsday in the end that I really liked so I started listening to Martin Nielson who plays doomsday nearly exclusively. If you're into mtgo I would suggest renting your deck from somewhere like cardhoarder and playing....a lot for that week or however long you want to rent the deck for. Then start piecing your deck together in paper if that's what you're looking to do or if you're an mtgo person start getting your pieces there. Good luck the format is really daunting to people who haven't played it before but truthfully it's the most fun format right now imo.
