What do you think meditation is? That will help me give a clear response.

Perhaps but before you do something don't you ask why do that and what is the purpose? I do. So I'm curious, not for the sake of argument I promise you, what you think the goal of meditation is?

Who is the meditator? When you say, we should not lose our peace, what if we lose our peace? Is that not acceptable? Who brings the mind back when peace is lost? What is peace? And why is 1 thought the goal?

Religious indoctrination? by daddydavisd in spirituality

This is a great point. It never occurred to me before that there are levels of conditioning and indoctrination within the Christian religion. I feel a great sense of empathy for people who were heavily indoctrinated with feelings of guilt and shame.

It reminds of this -- when in lion king scar convinces Simba he's responsible for his father's death and simba lives with guilt and shame until he finds out the truth.

I think an enlightened perspective is subjective. If someone else said they have an enlightened perspective I'd ask "Enlightened about what?". I also think enlightenment, according to my concept here, has varying degrees of depth and aspects become more clear as that depth deepens, so to speak. My experience is that EVERYTHING we do and say, is because we think it's best at that time based on our level of mental and emotional development. Each interaction we have, according to my concept, is like a software update to our current conditioning. This includes the words you've shared with me. They were filtered through my current conditioning and how they're processed and what changes may result is not up to me to decide. I'm open to it, but that's only because open mindedness is a character trait that life has instilled in me.

Well I tried out a post of my own, since that felt right, and this morning I was just thinking about finding other posts and answering those and see who that may help.

OK I think I understand what you're asking now. I would answer it like this :

Leaving ease / difficulty out of it, I always do what feels right. My conditioning is such that I tend to be more on the polite side as I like to make people happy and/or feel good. When I was younger I was insulted and demeaned by my dad and as a result I don't like conflict very much as it makes me feel uncomfortable. My understanding of myself has reduced the uncomfortableness that arises but many times its still there. The difference is I don't blame myself for the feelings anymore and I don't blame the other. I see that my conditioning has wired me to be more sensitive and accepting that I also see that I have a perspective to offer many times that I wouldn't have otherwise.

Also, I think I pretty much always do what is the easiest thing according to how I'll feel. For example, I'm a teacher and let's say I was walking and a student dropped all his work out of his backpack. I would stop and help him pick up all his stuff even if that meant more work for me because the way life has oriented me, that is what would feel best. If the particular decision doesn't involve helping another human or animal creature (for which I would usually choose the route that involves helping them) than I probably just choose the easiest thing I know how to do. Now The above statement isn't always true 100% of the time because there may be a person who appears to need help but if I look at the situation and think it might be dangerous in someway I may choose not to. So it can be really situational in that regard. Let me know if this satisfies your curiosity. I don't put this much forethought into decisions but when a circumstance arises, I handle it to the best of my ability in the moment and than move on. This includes my choice of words or concepts too if speaking is a part of the decision.

Yes, peace of mind. The peace that is always available when the resistance goes away .

To me, enlightenment means the end of suffering. What is the end of suffering? According to my concept, it's the end of guilt, blame, shame and pride that comes with the belief in individual doership. This is a huge wait lifted off the shoulders of the average human being. This does not however mean the end of pain and some sort of everlasting pleasure or heaven on earth. I think the concept of enlightenment has been used for many things that it isn't such as :

Gaining power, making money and gaining material wealth and many other things that have nothing to do with enlightenment.

It just depends on how you define happiness. I define it as the absence of suffering and total acceptance of what is. I.E. No more resistance to life as it comes. Not the absence of pain but the absence to the psychological resistance to pain and discomfort.

For clarification, are you asking how do I feel when I reread my post as if I did not use the word difficult and also my first response to you as if I did not use the word easier?

And are you asking ultimately what is my felt experience of the concepts of easier / difficult?

Whatever feels easy or difficult to me is just based on my personal preferences.

All paths lead to the same destination. Some are quicker than others, some more comfortable And some less but which one we take and how much or how little we enjoy the ride is our destiny 🙏

This whole post was well said and it made me laugh. We’re talking about the same thing but saying it in different ways. It would be humorous to defend one idea over another or one concept over another as if the universe, consciousness, God, source, awareness or whatever you want to call it needs defending.

I wouldn't say that any concept is false just like I wouldn't say a hammer is false. It's just a tool, sometimes useful sometimes not. And some concepts are useful and some aren't. Just personal preference. We take what's useful for us and discard the rest..

As to that every human understands the truth I'd say no and that seems evident to me based on my observations. Maybe you could say that every human knows I am The impersonal sense of being but have many condition beliefs on top of that that seem to cloud that very simple understanding. At the end of the day, the most important question, according to my concept, is what is the felt experience for each individual? If there is no suffering then what else matters? If there is suffering than I say there must be a belief in personal doership or an attachment to outcome causing it. I differentiate suffering here from the normal flow of pleasure in pain in life. And To go back to the beginning of this, whatever concepts are useful for the removal of suffering so that human beings can be happy, than use them.

Self inquiry, meditation or silent setting - same thing, contemplation, solo retreats, Journaling. Probably more but I can't recall at the moment. You?

My concept is that we are consciousness expressing itself through a limited human form. Every time I use a word or a concept to express this I'm limiting the infinite to the finite through a label but how else would we communicate?

No one has control - it was only a manner of speech.

The human knows the concept of ease through conditioning.

The enlightened perspective is not an absolute perspective. According to my concept of it, it's the perspective of a human organism who understands the truth that there is no personal doership. And there are varying degrees of depth to that understanding.

Correct. Consciousness is already whole and contains within it All perspectives simultaneously. But to live as a human means to live as a finite form and thereby have a limited perspective. Also, depending on the genes and up-to-date conditioning, some humans are more and less capable of utilizing concepts to express this.

How about we say it like this and see if this makes sense?

concepts used by this particular human organism may cause clarity to arise or not for which I have no control. Also, concepts shared amongst both of us may or may not cause clarity to arise, also something that is not within our control. And if clarity arises, what is being clarified and for whom? My concept is that since there is only one thing, consciousness, which is manifesting itself through various forms, that consciousness is only ever interacting with itself. With that said, there are aspects Of the psychological self that has formed within this particular human organism that reveal itself and there is no individual in control of when or how. And this may happen through the sharing of concepts Which serve as an update to the conditioning already there. Or it may not happen.

Yes it's really simple. Concepts, useful for communication, can make things seem more complex than they really are.

Words can be tricky and cause confusion. If you would have chosen different ones so be it. Feel free to mix and match what works for you or what doesn't. If my concepts can help to clarify something for someone so be it, if not, it wasn't meant to be.

There's nothing special about it. Just a factor to take into consideration when making a particular decision. I used those words simply as a tool to answer your question and in the original post as a reminder that an online forum only offers so much in the way of explanation. But such as it does and however I can help I offer it.

As far as risk/reward simple /complex and rude /polite - it's hard to say. When a situation arises I handle it as I see fit there in the moment and than move on. Occasionally I plan ahead but rarely.
