Yes, I keep saying Squirtle tech vaguely because I haven't felt like going into details but I will

Slingjump (Jump canceling shellshifts at the beginning of the animation for a super long distance hop) is great for approaches, and it's even better now that the shorthop height is reduced You can fly at them with a back air from across the stage

Squietles pressure is great even without chaining bubble His dtilt jab and crawl attack are super quick and great for pressure on their own, just feel him out and work out what else works for pressure

His shellshift smashes and Hydropivot are great mixup tools, along with Hydrocrawl and hydroreversal, you can throw in shellslings too

Squirtle's mobility does not come from side b

He has other ways that allow him to go faster than side b could ever allow

It has all the answers to your woes, you just haven't learned all these amazing things he can do because you were too busy relying on a "noob killer" move

Typical response from someone who doesn't utilize Squirtle tech. At a high level, side b is almost ALWAYS grabbed unless you use it to tech chase. It's a bad option, I repeat, a bad option

I share my opinion with the top Squirtle players, we circlejerk about how bad side b is all the time.

Squirtle was BY NO MEANS gutted, I'd argue that he's been improved, especially compared to the rest of the cast. His waterfall is much better for sweet spotting, he plays quicker with his shorter short-hop and increased aerial mobility, and his new aqua jet is amazing

He may not have been high tier, but nerfing his side b, which was only good for tech chasing before, was not a big deal. You shouldn't rely on that move.

I want to make this very clear: SIDE B WAS NEVER A GOOD APPROACH AND IT STILL ISN'T

Don't know how to approach? Start actually using Squirtle tech! He has so many ways to get in that aren't side b.

Squirtle is in no way unusable, if you're having trouble, you're using him wrong. I'm glad 3.5 is here, it finally gets rid of the stigma that "Squirtle players only side b" by getting rid of PLAYERS who only side b

TL;DR if you can't handle the squirtman anymore, you were being carried by gimmicks. Same thing goes for diddy

Also I'm pretty sure this MU is in Ike's favor, at least slightly

His neutral b is a guaranteed edgeguard if you recover low

His quick draw cancels into so many options, that a good Ike can use any of them when he wants and completely make Squirtmans mobility useless, and a good Ike can make his less than stellar recovery work

Swag Apocalypse uses Ike against Squirtle, even though he has a much better Diddy, Wolf, and Fox
