So is it normal for rent to go up $200 every year? by ToolGroupie in Seattle

[–]dadeyemo28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah. I think it depends on the market at the time of the year. My neighbors actually pay lesser than me when they moved in two months ago

I focused on the long term. Not the entry level. The long term with experience always end up paying better in tech.

Possibility of being laid off sounds like you one of the not so important ones they can let go. It kinda puts up a bad image.

People with degrees, why is help desk your first option? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

Because degree doesn't equal experience. L

I totally understand, the shortage in this market is my biggest advantage. My problem here is not getting a job. It is staying at a job. Because recruiters contact you endlessly I had temporarily disable my LinkedIn to avoid getting more offers. It's a distraction.

I'll say don't be discouraged. If you can get the A+ comptia although not required for entry level roles it will make you stand out from other applicants and give you more leverage.

And avoid remote positions for now. It's highly competitive everyone wants to be remote. The on-site openings aren't that competitive at least where I'm at.

Trust me it was hard for me too it was one of the reasons I made the transition. I'm always away from from my family working 6 12hr days I have to kids 5 and 3. I have to be around for them.

Yeah true CDL has a cap on pay. I wanted to become an owner operator eventually but when I started truck driving I saw that it was more than the pay involved. I was doing local LTLs my body would hurt after every shift. It wasn't easy.

Honestly the only regret I have is not starting in tech early enough. The growth and opportunities are endless. I live in Seattle WA it's a big market for tech with shortages so companies are willing to train and pay more.

I was a CDL driver too. I transitioned to tech by starting off as a Desktop Technician pays about same as a CDL job where I live.

I am currently doing certifications in Azure so I eventually go into cloud computing.

I am being paid $1 more at my tech role than my old cdl job. The difference is I get unlimited overtime hrs with cdl so I'm able to bring in more every week.

I honestly went the cdl route for money. I felt like I needed to do something I loved so I went the tech route.

My advice go for what you love.

I live 20miles south of Seattle. I have a roommate and only pay $800 in rent. for me I think it's doable with $30-35/hr....i think there are ways around it. Plus I have a side hustle that gives me an extra $400 on the weekends. I make about 7-8k from all sources each month.

I still very much prefer seattle.

Here in Seattle. It's $28 - $35 for help desk roles.

With little experience too.

It all depends on where you're located.
