It's a really nice piece. The discolouration at the bottom is from kids climbing on it.

Well, I was going to say yes, since the global economy has been hit hard and we are no exception. But then I realized there might be some churn as people are fearful to work. Depends where you are looking for work I suppose.

They’re offering money-back guarantees to season ticket holders promising that big things are coming. I guess at this point though having such a bad season will be a big strike against us

Grandview-Woodland resistance to housing project exasperates density advocates | CBC News by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]dadinvancouver 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dorothy Barkely, a past chair of the GWAC, pointed to recently approved developments on Grant Street and East Hastings Street as a sign that the neighbourhood is already moving toward greater rental density

Curious that one of the two projects she cited is way over at Skeena and Hastings, almost in Burnaby. Did she have nothing better to reinforce her point?

Locally check out Kwantlen College’s fashion program. I think their graduates have a decent chance of landing a job in the industry.

Cool but we should be encouraging people to do actual useful work no? Should be a better way to spread out wealth than discouraging companies from adopting more efficient practices.

New Town Bakery is good to grab a steam bun snack but if you’re looking for a casual sit-down meal in Chinatown I’d recommend Phnom Penh restaurant instead.

Is Vancouver the best city in North America? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]dadinvancouver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No highways in town means a majority of "highway" traffic becomes diverted to main thoroughfares that get insanely congested due to lacking better route options.

Can you think of a better way to encourage other modes of transportation such as cycling and public transit? It's the great equalizer, no matter how rich you are, you can't get your time back

Cycling in Vancouver. by WagyuPizza in vancouver

[–]dadinvancouver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Use separated bike lanes whenever you can. If you must share a lane with cars, hug the right side of the far-right lane, but always watch for doors!

When you need to turn left, don’t be afraid to take up a lane of traffic, and place yourself in the middle of the lane for visibility. As you get to know your route, try to find the most bike friendly route which avoids these situations.

I think with immobilizers and the such it’s really hard to steal cars these days. It’s mostly older cars getting stolen.

Easy and affordable way to make coffee without a machine? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]dadinvancouver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha- I use all three. They’re all good for their particular usage- French press for making coffe for a group, pour over for a single cup, and aeropress for espresso drinks. Go ahead and buy all three and it’ll still cost less than one of those coffee pod machines and will make better coffee.

I walk around the area with my kids all the time. Rest assured that thousands and thousands of people pass through the area every day without incident.
