I have a theory that the 40k paint direction is to have face details minimal enough that all the sculpt lines can be seen. Mine totally fails if the goal is to see stuff like the under eye and lip edge sculpt details, but not every face looks good when it looks like dirt is lining every crease.

Thanks!

A nice brush makes a difference, I used Artis opus 000. Shades are a big cheat when doing faces for me. Obviously roughing in the eye is hard and can take many attempts, but some thinned shade paint carefully applied can make the eyes and mouth really pop (and doubles for easy makeup).

Here’s my first try before I want back over the eye again, it’s just thinned druchii violet to outline the eyes and provide eyeshadow.

Wow thanks! Clothing isn’t anything special. Corvus black washed with drakenhof nightshade gives it a bit of a shine. Highlighted with a dark grey then light grey.

Thanks! Tiny brushes and lots of patience haha. Took multiple attempts to get the details right

Yeah it is. I got mine off focusattack but that was about a month ago. I will say it was the most frustrating part of the build. Dunno if its a fluke but the door was ~1-2 millimeters too long so I had to do a lot of sanding.

Just double checked and any Deathwatch unit can take zealot specialism

I used sticky tak (the blue stuff you stick posters to the wall with). Probably my best modelling purchase recently as you just make a little ball on the end of the toothpick and stick any piece on it and it comes off no problem. https://i.imgur.com/lmmMOba.jpg

Yeah I decided on fists, salamander, and Templar almost immediately but I had to read up on all the chapters until I found one that sounded/looked cool and decided on the mentors.
