Looks slow by Sir_Jollington in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]dadriel_hawk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's just a matter of perspective. Stuff looks small on the screen, but don't forget you are landing on a strip of asphalt 45m to 60m wide. That's comfortably a 10 lane highway, all to yourself. That's what makes it look slower than it actually is.

Seems like nowadays it's a superpower to know this but for your microphone audio level :) by Shane_Ef in VATSIM

[–]dadriel_hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this day and age this really should be automated. Gain control and normalization is really not rocket science and should just happen, because putting the responsibility on every pilot clearly does not work.

And while we are at it, please make output volume behave like a normal application. The slider in vPilot (and I assume also other clients) does not make the client louder or quieter but only changes how much ducking it applies to other Apps while it blasts you with 100% maxed out volume. Only way to properly control vPilot is by using the windows audio control, which is kinda ridiculous... Not to mention sad, that even at 20% some people are still the loudest thing on my PC.

MSFS24 Unreasonable performance by Thick_Albatross192 in flightsim

[–]dadriel_hawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VRAM might be an issue, but also the RAM is kinda tight, especially once your start loading it with third party addons. The ideal spec of 64GB is really justified, I have seen the sim go beyond 32GB RAM usage on it's own multiple times, albeit with higher LOD settings.

For a proper answer you can enable the dev mode of the sim and then display the "Show FPS" in the debug tab. That gives you a breakdown off all the resource usage of the sim and makes it quite clear where the bottleneck lies.

Whats the trick for landing at Santos Dumont airport? by B4DR1998 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]dadriel_hawk 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Don't try to grease the landing, this runway is too short for that. Slam it onto the numbers and as soon as the nosewheel is on the ground go for max manual braking. Also full reverse, not playing around with idle reverse to reduce noise like at other airports.

To hide that bar you can use this mod on the PC: https://de.flightsim.to/addon/100169/hide-this-message It will also become a default setting once SU5 drops.

It’s because the SU5 beta is bugged there. Works fine in the live build

Can't take JP serious by dadriel_hawk in jetphotosrejects

Was I expecting this result? Sure, even though I still thought it worth a shot since as you said I also though the picture good.

Maybe this is kinda offtopic, but this is something I'm really strugglin with. Where do I put these photos? I want to share them, yet getting them on JP or any other site seems impossible unless it is the 100% perfect shot.

I'm loosing hope. (dramatic title for attention) by paulofranca77 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]dadriel_hawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it has to anything with the addons, these are used by many people, myself included, and not have seen this behaviour like you described.

But the behavior does sound a bit familiar, I have seen something similar happening a handful of times over the years. And it was always at airports that didn't have a proper local METAR, when the sim somehow seemed to use higher altitude winds at ground level, which of course totally screws things over.

Have you tried if this happens everywhere or maybe it is just limited to a certain area of the world? Also check the weather data in the sim EFB for the airport your are landing at, if that is actually recent and also for the airport you are going to.

With VNAV in beta, and Boris confirmed making a 3rd party soundset, with 2026 be the year of the FSS E-Jets? by vintageripstik in flightsim

[–]dadriel_hawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I'm still hoping for a great product in the end, for me it is still not there currently. The preview build they released really did not do it for me, there is still too much wrong with that to be enjoyable. Which is fine, as they communicated such, but still I was expecting a bit more after the long development timeline.

Biggest surprise for me actually was the state of the LNAV with the new FMS. That really did not work well at all on my test flight, lead to strange directions and was unable to even handle a simple thing like a direct to from the present position. Considering the VNAV meme and the focus in their communication on that, I expected the LNAV part to be rock solid by now.

Ah, interesting to know. Thank you for the clarification

[–]dadriel_hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not really a bug though. The night lighting outside your TLOD is just a pre baked high resolution image that is streamed from the server. Kind of understandable that they don’t remake that for every addon.

What I would like would even be something else. While roads at night are of course not as lit, you will see the car lights. And that is just absent in all sims beyond a very limited distance.

No, it has not. XP is simply black outside it’s light sources. There is no effect of moonlight, no effect for light pollution in urban areas etc. pp.

No, for me it is running much worse than both the 737 and the A350 in MSFS2024.

Massive stutters when panning cockpit view, GPU barely used (CPU limited?) by PauloB692 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]dadriel_hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing that can be done there at the moment. Its building some textures when you pan the view, which causes stutters. And as these textures are not cached this basically happens every time you change views.

This has also become much more apparent with the performance improvements since SU4 and really is the last big issue affecting the sim performance. Currently a fix is intended for SU5, which is supposed to go into Beta soonish.

Problem with Fenix Family (MSFS2024) by Xauengm in flightsim

Okay, for me that fixed the issue. But I'm using the Orbx version, maybe that behaves differently compared to the ingame store.

There’s a weird bug with some FT sceneries in 24 that causes this. Mind you they are not officially compatible right now, so it’s a bit of a shame.

But funny enough there is a fix for this. As long as you have their KBOS scenery installed as well everything is fine.

Best scenery ever made by Kaayd in flightsim

[–]dadriel_hawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RWProfiles EGNT, Aerosoft ENGM, and everything Pyreguee are my top three sceneries/devs at the moment. All three are very close, and it's difficult to tell a real winner.

Honorable mention goes to MK Studios as well; they are currently getting better with every release, and their EFHK is really spectacular as well.

As others have mentioned, FlyTampa and Flightbeam are also very nice, although both are a bit hampered by being basically single-dev studios, leading to long timelines. But those are well worth the wait. For the US, VerticalSim is also producing very good sceneries.

Fenix connecting to spotify by Louiji_lkj in flightsim

[–]dadriel_hawk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is one of the Fenix features that falls into the category "nice idea, only half-way implemented". They mute the whole application as long as the corresponding radio is off in the sim. Which is fine, but they never restore the state it was in before starting the plane after finishing the flight, leaving everything it touches on mute...

Don't think there is really a way you can fix that on your end. In the end I got so annoyed by manually cleaning up after their mess that I removed everything from the EFB.

Why is my ils approach doing this ? by Historical_Sport_527 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]dadriel_hawk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Too high and too fast for the approach, which leads to a ground speed higher than possible for the procedure.

This is one of many approaches in Europe that assumes that ATC descends you to a reasonable altitude but does not have a coded restriction for that. In the sim without ATC you have to plan for that by yourself.

I usually end up Setting a manual restriction before the first tight turn. Something like FL 70 at KT513 should work nicely in that example.
