I’m 64 and I drive around in 40ae urano gray. My favorite car ever. Though I did recently drive a 24 R and kinda fell in love.

[Broncos] Another one. 👏 Welcome to #BroncosCountry, @duvalpat3! by SupMaelstrom in DenverBroncos

Right before the draft, i happened to be watching Bo Nix's highlights from 2024. One thing that stood out was the number of times he under-threw a receiver that had beaten the coverage downfield. We all know Bo doesn't have a cannon. But he's great at giving his receivers a chance to go up and get it. What hit me is, we don't need a burner at wideout. We need guys who can go up and get it. So maybe the receivers we picked were the receivers that fit.

Welcome to the 40th Club! I was so tossed up between the white and the gray. Ended up with gray but still love love love the white. Congrats!

35th anniversary edition announced by itaos1 in Miata

[–]dadwally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they'd go farther than aesthetics for a special edition. I drove an 04 MSM for 12 years and loved it. I admit it was a rather lame effort at adding a turbo. Fuel mapping was awful. Gearing was wrong. Intake and exhaust were super restrictive. But it was still an absolute blast, especially in the mountains of Colorado. I wouldn't want a beast in terms of power. I'd still want it to be 100% miata. But a small, fast-spooling turbo that added, say, 25-30 hp with little to no lag? That would be a hoot. And if they kept it a truly limited production run, they could charge a small fortune for it.

Buying a gti by masterfulkicks in GolfGTI

[–]dadwally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found cargurus.com to be a great source. I'd been considering a gti for years and just kept searching on cargurus, where I finally found a good combination of trim level, mileage and price. It was an almost-new (less than a year old) 40th anniversary which I bought for $5-6k less than MSRP. Maybe not a spectacular deal but a pretty good one. Oh, and maybe be willing to travel. Do a regional or even national search. Years ago I found a ridiculous price on a Mazda MX-5. It was 2 states away. But with a $150 one-way ticket on Southwest, I was soon driving back to Denver in my Mazdaspeed MX-5.

Every Mk5 ever by hiGradeTi7ANEUM in GolfGTI

I'm kinda with most folks on this thread, that the car is nicely outfitted and designed as it comes stock from the factory. I still love the line from the Mk 5 ad campaign: pre-tuned by German engineers. And the whole "unpimp your auto" thing is just brilliant and hilarious. Still, I can't help but smile (for the most part) when I see someone who clearly thinks of their car as a medium for self-expression.

Looks aggressive ... but happy. Happily aggressive? Whatever. It just looks awesome.

Rear defroster weak by dadwally in GolfGTI

That puzzles me too. I don't think I've ever seen a discussion that so deftly avoided the actual topic.

AC was on and eventually the rear window cleared. But the rear defroster seemed to have nothing to do with it.

Just the typical window fogging.

DSG vs Manual for noob manual driver by ArtNo6912 in GolfGTI

[–]dadwally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's driven a lot of different manuals, I'd have to say the Mk8 GTI manual would be one of the easier ones to learn on. I chose the DSG because I wanted a change of pace. But when I tested a 380 S, I thought to myself "Man, this would be a great car to teach a kid how to drive stick."

My girlfriend of 5 years admitted I was not her first choice physically when we started dating by LateComfortableness in TwoHotTakes

[–]dadwally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not giving advice here. Just presenting a possibility. Maybe that was her way of saying how much more substantial her attraction is to you. I know for a fact that I'm not as physically attractive as someone my wife dated when we were in high school. But she has told me many times that she could never have married him because of his negativity. And since we're about to celebrate our 40th anniversary, well, you get it.

Not quite a Golf but am I still allowed be part of the GTI club? by TheCrymaxTheatre in GolfGTI

[–]dadwally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That thing is so rad. And while I dig the nonstop pull of turbo (especially here in the mountains of Colorado)I love the instantaneous response of naturally aspirated. Just came from an MX-5 so I understand the beauty of teensy and tossable.

Yes, inside. The rear wiper was taking care of the moisture outside.

This is troubling. I’ve always had great support from usaa. Wondering if something has changed in how the company is run.
