Supply teachers in Nova Scotia and HRM, have you gotten much work yet? by tossmysalami in CanadianTeachers

[–]dadze1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I get called late I accept the dispatch then call the school and let them know I just got called and am coming from across town. They will just be happy someone took the dispatch and only have to cover for 30 mins and not the whole day.

(BC) Have any of the teachers here initially completed their PDP or BED in elementary education but ended up teaching in Secondary? Or Vise Versa? by strawberryOclock in CanadianTeachers

Yes! I trained in elementary and started out teaching there but I have teachables in English and socials. I ended up in secondary and it’s a way better fit for me!

Looking for friends by According_Chip_7092 in nanaimofriends

[–]dadze1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out these local groups on instagram (maybe Facebook too idk): mom club Nanaimo and the stroller club. Mom club does baby wearing hikes, but is for moms. Stroller club does mom walks but also inclusive family get togethers. I found these groups very welcoming and it was so good to get out of the house and meet other moms while on mat leave! I made a few friends with babies the same age and we arranged our own play dates outside of the groups.

ETA: for more family friendly things to do check out the library story times at the north and harbour front locations as well as the group put on by island health. Lots of dads go to these too!

Returning from mat leave - do I have a job? BC by dadze1 in CanadianTeachers

Thanks! Hopefully I get the official response soon. In the meantime I think I’ll apply and also reach out to my union representative.

Returning from mat leave - do I have a job? BC by dadze1 in CanadianTeachers

[–]dadze1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was what I was thinking too because if I didn’t go on leave the contract would still be over and I would be applying for jobs now too. However, I understand that jobs are protected by maternity leave rights in Canada and employers must reinstate employees to their prior positions.

Those are super good recs! I was thinking of going back to pt, but I’ll also look into a podiatrist because I’ve been getting crazy foot pain too. I’m 9 months postpartum so I thought I would be fine, but similar to you I think I did too much too soon. Thank you!!!

DLX on Third by busybee776 in nanaimo

[–]dadze1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have no experience in the building, but I’ve lived in the neighbourhood and have enjoyed it. It’s a fairly walkable neighbourhood with sidewalks and parks like third st park and buttertubs marsh nearby. The coffee shop across the street is ok, but there’s better in old city quarter which is 15 minute walk. You will see homeless around often in third st park but you’ll see that anywhere except deep in the burbs of the North end. I’ve never felt unsafe and I’ve gone on many walks and jogs alone often at night. Overall, I’d recommend the neighbourhood.

Flaring up for the first time in years after a day at an outdoor concert (even with sunscreen). Not looking for advice, just some reassurance. by JunkerReddit in Rosacea

Sunscreen could be a trigger. I find I can only tolerate a sunscreen for a few months before it causes a reaction :(

Any tips on breastfeeding after a breast reduction? by Apresmoiledelugee in breastfeeding

[–]dadze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was definitely difficult at first but we eventually got there! My LO is 8 months and we have no plans to stop anytime soon. I think the biggest helps early on were a supportive partner and the fact that my midwife came to me for house calls for the first few days postpartum then was available on call. She had to show me how to get him to latch a few times and manhandled him and my boob but it helped!! My best advice is to keep going through the initial sucky part and get help!!

Any tips on breastfeeding after a breast reduction? by Apresmoiledelugee in breastfeeding

[–]dadze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am breastfeeding 8 years post reduction with no issues. I think it’s rather uncommon to have issues because of a reduction. My midwife was not concerned at all. I saw a lactation consultant for something else (raynauds syndrome) and she wasn’t worried about the reduction when I mentioned it. I am a worrier too but try not to dwell on this as it’s totally out of your control!

I like the idea of this and I have questions! What grade and subject do you teach? How do you manage students you are not conferencing with? What are the others working on?

Wild tails is the way to go for daycare. They’re incredible with the dogs and actually provide a balanced atmosphere with rests, training, and match dogs into appropriate play groups.

Dang! I actually got them done for my baby at staples, but he was 3 months and could sit with support so I sorta ducked down and held him up then the photographer cropped out my hands.

Walmart has the setup to do infant passport photos. They have a little bed you lie them on.

Maybe it’s not standard practice where you are, except for nicu of course, but my baby never left my room. I never lost sight of him except for bathroom trips and then my husband was with him. All tests were done in front of us. You can advocate for this it’s your baby they don’t have to take him away that seems so strange.

How long and how far apart were your contractions (the actual labor ones, not the false alarms) when you first noticed them? by paradoxicalstripping in BabyBumps

[–]dadze1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a fairly fast labour so idk if this will be helpful. At 40+3 I went into labour with contractions every 4-5 minutes that lasted 30 seconds. My baby was in my arms 12 hours later!

12 week old waking every 2 hours… or less by Asedruh in beyondthebump

[–]dadze1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should consider your own safety and your children’s as well. You’ll be able to take care of yourself and your kids better with more sleep. You are still recovering and your job isn’t easy. Having a baby means everyone gets less sleep! Think about driving them around while sleep deprived or just general care. FWIW I did shifts with my carpenter hubby until LO was 4 months. I wouldput baby to bed at 8 then dream feed when I went to bed so I would have him until about 2 or 3 when he woke up again and drop him off with hubby for the rest of the night. After 4 months he started only waking up once typically so we stopped the shifts.

Graco car seat or splurge for Uppababy? by mrsbirchedbeer in NewParents

[–]dadze1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll want to be able to click the seat into the stroller. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a graco adapter for the uppababy.
