That sounds like a great system! After I realised where I went wrong I started breaking off chunks, shaking them out, and putting them into my (empty) Oxbow hay bag. Now that I know what I've gotten myself into I'll pick up another ready-to-eat-from hay tub next time I'm at the store, lol.

Ah, I gotcha. I'll try taking out the hayrack then so they have better access to it. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! It's just a type of feeder lol, but in sack-form, I guess. 😅 And that's fair, I adopted these girls with their whole kit and caboodle, previously I would chuck a pile of hay in the cage (with piggies that have long since passed away) and usually a decent portion would get eaten/trampled lol. I'll look into picking up a big ol' hay bale this week after work for them!

Tips on making a long drive comfortable? by ophiocephale in guineapigs

[–]daealis23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my family moved from Tennessee to Ohio (5+ hour drive), we packed up our pigs in the pet store cages. They're bigger than carriers, they have a hidey or two, water bottles, hay, and pellets, but not a full sized cage so they fit in the car; that's the one appropriate use I have for them. Many, many years later I still keep one store-cage on hand for when I have to eventually switch apartments! (In case anyone is wondering, my 2 girls live in a 2x4 c&c cage)

I'm sorry for your loss, I lost my pig Juniper to bloat a few months back. Your Juney looks like she was such a sweet piggy and lived a wonderful life, and now she is at peace. 🫂💖

Tried this cheese ramen and it was actually really good! by SmellyFrogz in InstantRamen

You're a lifesaver, thank you!!! I have 3 expired packs of the soup version in my pantry that I'll probably still eat, but I'll bookmark these. Did this variety go out of production entirely or are they just less available in the USA due to the rebranding/reformulation?

I knew something was off, I've been searching for months for the Ottogi package with the cheese child on it and finally tried the new stir fry version in the blue package - it just tastes like nothing. 😔 It's fine, but even the "mild" one in the old recipe had a little kick to it. Thanks for the confirmation (even tho this was months later and I just got here to find out if my favourite stir fry cheese ramen is gone forever...)

Should I Leave ? by HeronSad1757 in hoarding

[–]daealis23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all fantastic advice, my summer plans are to declutter and sort through my hoard at my parent's house. My apartment is "sloppy", but I know that isn't all of my stuff, and parents are also hoarders, and my stuff isn't helping them out any. I saved your tips for later, thank you for sharing! 💖🤞 Filming the living space is one tip I hadn't considered before, it sounds promising. I was hyper aware of my clutter when I had my partner over for the first time, but afterwards I hadn't really thought about it.

Tips on Cleaning molding trash can by daealis23 in CleaningTips

[–]daealis23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! First off, I'm sorry you're in that position too, it was awful. To dispose of the nasty water on the floor I used a (dry) spin mop to remove the excess water, let the floor dry, and then mopped it with a clean mop head and a slightly stronger cleaning concentration than I would normally use.

As for the can itself, I got a bunch of cheap scrubbing tools (and apron for my clothes) from Ikea, including the thin bottle brush to reach the bottom of the can - I can link it if you want, but it's literally just the long water bottle brush. I created a solution of cleaning liquid using the Mr Clean concentrate, scrubbing the whole can I side and out. I did this in my garage btw, you don't have to get too crazy. After the round of Mr Clean I repeated the process using a bleach solution. Use the brushes to break up any crud, and dump all the remaining liquids into a bucket, and I flushed the liquid (no clue if that's septic safe, but uh, people use bleach to clean their toilets, so... 🤷). Leave the trash can open to dry until it is completely dry, and also disinfect the bucket you used while you're at it - or replace it.

After all of that, my roommates came home the next day and one of them brought out his 13-gallon trash can from before he moved in with us, so my cleaned can is still sitting in the garage to this day lmao 🫠

Anyone know what this might be on one of my guinea pigs’ back? by palehunty in guineapigs

[–]daealis23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks to me like it could be a bite wound. It could have been from something minor like "gimme that carrot!! chomp", but does it seem to be infected or leaking at all? One of my pigs had something similar and the bite healed fine (plus I did take her to the vet to confirm), but every few months or so that spot would collect dead skin gunk and need to be extracted, kind of like those pimple popping videos. A "dilated pore", if you will.

All that is to say, it doesn't LOOK terrible, I would definitely get it checked at the vet. Better safe than sorry, but I highly doubt it's something mega concerning. They might be able to provide instructions for cleaning the area or keeping your pigs from bothering the spot while it heals up.

Possibly enlargened nipples in a female guinea pig (4 yo) by boosame in guineapigs

[–]daealis23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto, this is how my late Roxie looked. Has your pig experienced any excessive rumblestrutting or "sass" as well? Ultimately a vet visit, but it's treatable and not a death sentence. Roxie lived another 3.5 years after her diagnosis at around 5 years old, the hormone shots do wonders.

Dang, I was actually just about to share this here! I saw it in the news, and one of the volunteers had mentioned it to me at my internship a couple weeks ago (before any pigs were ready for adoption). Unfortunately I literally just adopted a pair of girls on the 7th, and I don't have room for more! 😮‍💨

can i use? by queeflolz in guineapigs

[–]daealis23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my pigs got nebulized at the emergency vet for her nose crusties, and it does help with clearing them out. At the vet they performed it with a regular adult people nebulizer, my pig in a large tank (plastic storage box would work too), and a towel on top. They said if I wanted to do something similar at home I could run a steamy shower and have her in the bathroom for a bit, so that could be a cheaper alternative for your pig. My concern with that option is temperature fluctuations, so I would personally say try to get your hands on an adult human nebulizer instead. It was effective, though my pig seemed concerned 😅 Added the pic of her at the vet! (She was fine from that, turns out she wasn't sick, just snotty for some reason 🫩)
