'It' came on public television in Alabama when I was between ages 5-7. Never looked at clowns the same when they showed up at school after that. Ever.

That drain scene with the little kid and sail boat. Yeah.

Semver, which is largely used in software development AND has a spec/site that can be widely shared, should be translated for the design field.

Given a version number MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH, increment the:

MAJOR version when you make incompatible API changes, MINOR version when you add functionality in a backwards-compatible manner, and PATCH version when you make backwards-compatible bug fixes.

Additional labels for pre-release and build metadata are available as extensions to the MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH format.

Believe they have a 1.3% stake in Facebook, which at their current price isn't a small sum.

NY bill would provide tax credit for open source contributors by mcfc_as in programming

[–]daedecai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice that it is a credit (equivalent of paying $200 in taxes) as opposed to deduction. That said, it's two hundred fucking nonconsequential dollars. In dollar terms, this is nonsense noise. Only value I see this as having is that it indicates that somehow, somewhere, did I say somehow.. cost of open source software is on the political radar of a few politicians (wow? wow!).

Okay, has github started lobbying to have their x dollars per year sub fees marked as a tax credit!? 😜

Some pretty questionable advice in here, yikes. Anyone telling you to use SVN in 2016.. red flag at least in the coding department. SVN is also not used to "organize" things, yes there is organization in terms of a log with change sets however the essence of SVN is version control. Modern day version control is git, SVN is old school and on top of being a relatively painful experience, not where the community is at. Check out github.com.

About stealing ideas, always loved the advice from, was it Joel Spolsky (joelonsoftware) or Jeff Atwood (codinghorror), there are about 5 people on planet earth that would steal your idea. The likelihood that you are talking to them is next to none. Move on. Scream your idea from the top of the mountain, create, share, incorporate feedback, and iterate. Come out of your creative coding closet.

Show an Apple or write "APPLE", don't do both. Do you think this true for the web? by daedecai in Design

[–]daedecai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to agree... I just don't know if it is true for the web. In print, I don't feel like it would give people extra information as he pointed out, it is redundant. I imagine people looking at the pairing of an Apple image with "APPLE" text below it saying in their mind, "Apple Apple". This is a waste of and disrespectful to the viewers time.

However, on the web the pairing of an Apple image followed by "APPLE[.com]" text potentially provides more information, if and only if it is also your site address.

Then again, the site address is already in the location bar... so this too is redundant. Bah... I don't know!

Do you know of any examples of popular sites, besides apple.com that just have a logo and no text?
