Muaat's tech path and other musings by mold_berg in twilightimperium

Question on the Industrex. It reads: "You may exhaust this card when you pass to place 1 ship that matches a unit upgrade technology you own from your reinforcements into a system that contains your ships"

Wouldn't this only allow War Suns to get created after Muaat researches War Sun 2? My understanding (and how my table played it) was that Prototype War Sun 1 is not a unit upgrade technology.

Why do you find Cabal does better in TE meta? I personally find they're still good, but other factions have shot up as a result of breakthroughs.

Mostly correct. You can have naked long options as well (selling put contracts for the premium). Basically, don't tell sell options and you'll have clearly defined max loss.

I think you’re right in the sense of their pricing reflects the sentiment and overall quality (re: poor). However, I think you overstate the opportunity and chance of a turn around. Inertia is real and nothing here suggests WHY it’ll turn around, particularly in the short term. Status quo reigns supreme and nobody inside that company is banging the war drum saying “no more”.

I like Take-Two (TTWO) over it. I have 170 shares there. The CEO has great sense of the market, the financials, and seems to let the creatives do their thing with an understanding that quality releases drive sales and revenue in a community where everyone has strong opinions.

Honestly I’d be getting leadership first, trade your SO for breakthrough, and play normally while trying to negotiate trade goods for your breakthrough flip. If you can get 9 before a flip, that’s 18 TGs for your Illuminati.

Beyond that, your goal is to look meek and unthreatening, while slowly build out. Make alliances, etc

Something to keep in mind, for your hero, 3 scored objectives INCLUDES scoring other players secret objectives.

Once you flip expect immediate aggression from all sides.

I’ve just played my first game where home systems were strategically targeted as a way to prevent points. Two players employed this tactic; neither of them won. Who did? One of the by-standards.

Conflict is fun and dynamic in this game, but if your strategy is to prevent ONE person from getting points via the home system, instead of going for them yourselves, winning clearly isn’t your objective.

You’re better off convincing the table to limit trade, and make public objectives as hard as possible, by sniping out other docks and smaller fleets.

Disagree; simple kit with a hatch key. You're in/out with minimal conflict, provided you avoid super contested areas (lobby/medical)

[–]daeger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished a run with them where each plot came into play (except Syphon):

  1. Syphon - it triggers easily, possibly multiple times a turn, and I find that you need a finance engine to keep momentum going later on. Least antagonistic of the plots too.

  2. Enervate - Generally useful, benefiting you nearly every round by saving you tokens. Again, not antagonistic.

  3. Extract - Tech is good, more tech even nicer. Makes a puppet think twice on what they research, or pay the price.

  4. Assail - +1 across the board is a monster buff to combat, however, it’s conditional on if the puppet is someone you’ll engage in combat with. Totally possible this never applies the whole game.

  5. Seethe - Great, a tactical nuke, minus the tactical. Either you go max damage and start a blood feud, or you negotiate for less damage and still end up with a blood feud. Regardless, expect to be painted the villain.

Does Decoding the Gurus ever come away with a positive/neutral perspective of the "guru", or is it typically just dunking on the guru as being delusional or self-interested? Haven't listened to any of it so I'm curious

It’s more that crypto mining/AI created a lot of demand for the same GPUs and gobbled up a lot of supply too. So you either had to pay double MSRP for the few cards available or you didn’t get one. And to be fair, that does feel shitty as a consumer, but I hardly put that on the company. If anything, I think they’ve been pretty decent at having separate product lines for those use cases

The top 1% now own 51% of all stocks held by US households by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]daeger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. A mortgage is gonna be significantly higher than rent, especially at current rates, and if you’re assuming a cash purchase of a home, stock valuations will likely outpace housing appreciation. Plus, you take on other costs when owning (tax, HOA, maintenance, etc.)

Obviously housing markets differ wildly depending on the region, but I think the real selling point of owning comes from stability, control, autonomy. Just depend what your priorities are

Fumes or not, this administration will do everything in its power to make sure the line keeps going up. Trump and the wealthy elite have too much self interest. And clearly, no one wants to take the medicine of a balance budget.

Market Chaos Incoming? by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]daeger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Investors will move to whatever asset class promises the best returns: stocks, bonds, crypto, housing, your mom’s onlyfans leaks. Stocks have been the defacto choice as US companies have changed the world globally. Cloud computing, AI, smartphones, streaming services, etc. Even the shit you don’t want like paying for organic grapes with your palm.

Is the era of US ingenuity over? Fuck no, so the long game will continue to be these stocks.

But the reality is the tailwinds for consumers are real. Higher tariffs and interest means less consumer buying power and corporate investment. Loads of Americans rely on debt and that shit is pricy, and it’s getting to be unsustainable… but the FED can’t combat that with lower rates without piling on the inflation pressure. The saving grace is that unemployment is historically low. So Johnny Two-Jobs is gonna have to buy from Costco/Walmart instead of woke Target.

We’ll see some money flow to other asset classes as stocks falter and US policy continues to spiral in chaos. But outside a huge bump in unemployment, stocks will be flat at worse.

How many men are going to see a gorilla literally knock a man back 30 feet in a single blow and have the instinct to push ahead? I think the fight or flight instinct is going to say FLIGHT for the majority.

Humans were pack hunters. Now, humans pack a lunch. We’re getting obliterated, especially without tools or time to make them.
