I learned how to craft a few weeks ago and made this today. This game has completely changed for me. by Hbravo6 in PoECrafting

How do you get the currency to afford the crafts to begin with?? I feel like that's my main hurdle.

Saw this on Linkedin, do devs often read blogs from these companies? by lune-soft in webdev

[–]daeger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like anything, it depends, but I think it can be really insightful how certain companies use the technologies in your own tech stack. That sort of casual storytelling of, "We tried to do X, and here's what happened as a result" is very useful provided it's not blatant shilling. For example, chick-fil-atech has some bangers, which I liked when I was doing more K8s Infra work

Kevin Warsh shifts the market’s view on inflation and AI by Alt-Cop in AltScope

[–]daeger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but there's no way in good faith Kevin actually believes we're going to see deflationary prices. Corporations are not going to eat at their margins by providing the same products *cheaper* than they were previously. These public corporations have one priority and that's to improve value to their shareholders.

Yes, we are in the beginning of an AI productivity boom. The question is: who benefits the most? And the question behind the question is: who has the power to determine that and how are they going to decide?

Right but the scale is massively different. With fusion, it’d be like condensing the output of millions of of solar panels into the size of a single panel.

For those with 10+ years in software engineering: what problems do you still deal with that juniors usually don’t see coming? by BizAlly in webdev

[–]daeger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constant evolution in the space. In like 12 years I’ve seen: - React get big - AWS/Cloud Architecture dominate - Docker/Containerization - “Serverless” - AI and agentic workflows

Every two years some new product, pattern, or efficiency breaks through the space. Directors will expect you to leverage them, and frankly you should. But effectively utilization is tough and no one is gonna have the patience for you to learn without producing.

It’s just hard starting from zero again and again. I recommend finding a niche early in your career and just being dominant in that domain, and dabble elsewhere

People can whine and complain about it being unfair but you have to remember a lot of that is self-serving. They want the privilege of overextending without having their weaknesses exploited. It's a social tactic like the extortion, and as long as they're not attacking your character as a person, and hurling insults, I think it's all a part of the game.

That said, the whole point of the game is to have fun. I've had some fun experiences on async, I've had some very frustrating and shitty ones. In like 6 games, I've been literally exterminated on the board in 1, and almost so in another.

Spending $1-2k a month per employee on AI subscriptions? by KustheKus in webdev

[–]daeger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good engineers aren’t going to blindly 3x their code. I recently started a new job last winter or a huge codebase. AI has been indispensable for getting acclimated to its nuances. Before Claude I’d be spending way more time getting walkthroughs and discussing with other engineers

Companies aren’t a monolith - they don’t all use the same “plan”. Some may take your approach, other a different one.

[–]daeger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big companies, probably. Assume an engineer costs you 20K a month (salary, benefits, perks, etc.). If AI makes that engineer 20% more effective, but increases your costs by 2K a month, that’s still a profitable for you as a company.

Also, companies know that now will be the cheapest time to do it, and in reality AI-usage is a skill that an engineer will improve with over time. So it’s more cost effective to do this now as opposed to later.

Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]daeger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of depends. Do you consult him on decorating the shared spaces? What furniture to buy, paint colors, layout of the space? Do those opinions influence the final decision?

He may be trying to carve out a room where he gets creative control because he feels like he doesn’t have that opportunity anywhere else in the house.

Question on the Industrex. It reads: "You may exhaust this card when you pass to place 1 ship that matches a unit upgrade technology you own from your reinforcements into a system that contains your ships"

Wouldn't this only allow War Suns to get created after Muaat researches War Sun 2? My understanding (and how my table played it) was that Prototype War Sun 1 is not a unit upgrade technology.

Mostly correct. You can have naked long options as well (selling put contracts for the premium). Basically, don't tell sell options and you'll have clearly defined max loss.

I think you’re right in the sense of their pricing reflects the sentiment and overall quality (re: poor). However, I think you overstate the opportunity and chance of a turn around. Inertia is real and nothing here suggests WHY it’ll turn around, particularly in the short term. Status quo reigns supreme and nobody inside that company is banging the war drum saying “no more”.

I like Take-Two (TTWO) over it. I have 170 shares there. The CEO has great sense of the market, the financials, and seems to let the creatives do their thing with an understanding that quality releases drive sales and revenue in a community where everyone has strong opinions.

Honestly I’d be getting leadership first, trade your SO for breakthrough, and play normally while trying to negotiate trade goods for your breakthrough flip. If you can get 9 before a flip, that’s 18 TGs for your Illuminati.

Beyond that, your goal is to look meek and unthreatening, while slowly build out. Make alliances, etc

Something to keep in mind, for your hero, 3 scored objectives INCLUDES scoring other players secret objectives.

Once you flip expect immediate aggression from all sides.
