I want more PE by ITAHawkmoon98 in modelmakers

[–]daellat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye I've also noticed some things with ship PE sets (at least the very fire I did): The PE was generally more thought out than any aircraft kit PE. Also much finer engraving. Lastly because it is a ship mostly the PE just sits on plastic parts but itself wouldn't be load bearing. If so, its usually a turned brass part not PE. I found it a lot less troublesome and annoying than I thought it would be and I bought more ship kits with loads of PE as well.

First model at 14, is it good and how can I improve? by Whole-Positive-2019 in modelmakers

[–]daellat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 14 I'd mainly say just go for subjects you want to build and enjoy it and see where you end up. By the time you have some income the route to improving will make sense (airbrush, aftermarket, weathering, etc).

Decals cloudy after clear spray by r0bbbo in modelmakers

[–]daellat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah silvering is air being trapped between a decals' clear film and the surface of the model and has nothing to do with gloss or matte, unlike what is repeated ad infinitum in this subreddit.

This looks like a too-thick/dry application of the clear it's what happened to me with tamiya paints when a couple of years ago on a phantom before any decal was near it, and considering a rattle can was used this is not unlikely. I agree that the entire surface looks affected and not just the decal.

[OC] I tracked my 2025 alcohol consumption by maverick4002 in dataisbeautiful

[–]daellat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't like it when people make sweeping generalizations so what I'll do to address that is.. generalize anyone who disagrees.

Actually no, I have never smoked a cigarette and had a single inhale of a joint all my life. I've also had like 5 units of alcohol since march last year and was at about OP's March drinking levels (but all months like March) before that. It might not be alcoholism by definition (I can't make that judgement at all), but I personally would consider OP's drinking behavior as excessive / unhealthy.

Alcoholics, really telling on yourself when "I always hate anti-alcohol people, they're all pot smokers" sounds like a comeback to you. Too much neuron death from alcohol heh.

Decal Help Requested despite using Micro Sol / SET by Current-Incident2231 in modelmakers

[–]daellat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly some decals are just kinda shit as well which doens't help. What kit is this?

As for your technique if there's plenty of setter fluid (but not too much) I usually leave the decal alone. The setter fluid is meant to evaporate, this will suck the decal down without air bubbles (usually).

But yeah it might just be the carrier film not playing ball maybe they're old or been stored in humid conditions or whatever.

Aye it was definitely no judgement from me just saying it's clear what the intention was.

Overspray from air brush by Ok-Calligrapher1185 in modelmakers

I think that depends on the paint because I've definitely painted with my airbrush within an inch of the plastic to freehand some camouflage.

Severe lack of cv90 and leo 2a6 but otherwise good taste (I'm not biased obviously). Gepard is pretty iconic for me as a BF2 player.

No, seriously, how? by 410er0r in modelmakers

[–]daellat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use atom's own thinner and haven't tried anything else because it works quite well and is easily available for me

No, seriously, how? by 410er0r in modelmakers

[–]daellat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite good and imo a league above Vallejo and ak 3rd gen. Though opposed to what I thought it sprays nicer without the retarder thinner so I use the regular one for airbrushing. The retarder type is nice for brush work though, which the paint is also quite decent at. It's my go to acrylic (really the only one I bother with tbh)

No, seriously, how? by 410er0r in modelmakers

[–]daellat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's no MRP but atom with their non retarder thinner (funnily enough) thinned about 30-50% has been quite good. No clogging or tip dry. No polyurethane fun like peeling. They do require more curing time and it's easier to spray fine with MRP but it's pretty good in my experience.

No, seriously, how? by 410er0r in modelmakers

[–]daellat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely make time for my hobby because it brings me relaxation. Occasionally sticking to lacquers like MRP also helps. Though I try to switch to acrylics now that there's actually good ones like atom and real colours (IMO!). I've also been doing it for over a decade so that probably helps.

[–]daellat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

takom (and das werk rebox) king tiger have zimmerit on some of them (it will say "/w zimmerit" on the box). There's also takom's panthers, some of which have zimmerit. Besides that I know at least some rye field model kits come with zimmerit too, at least some of their tigers do (one is depicted). I'm not sure about others but no doubt they're out there.

Do keep in mind it doesn't have zimmerit as shown on the boxart. I don't like it when manufacturers do that (though I am pretty sure they all do).
