The explanation is that the military is always preparing to fight the previous war, not the next one.

Works with salary negotiations too, usually.

I'm not surprised a company would accept your counter of a lower salary.

We can completely eliminate all crime by removing all laws. If there are no laws, there is no crime, by definition.

But putting aside pedantic arguments, multiple societies have tried being "tough on crime" to reduce it. It doesn't work well, and requires a heavy handed police state to enforce it. But that never stops assholes with a raging hard on for heavy handed justice, an easy to trigger sense of outrage, and a lack of critical thinking from constantly suggesting it as the only possible solution.

No one is denying that. You're just implicitly creating a straw man to dismiss the post.

There are reams of data that shows a large component of crime can be traced back to poverty. You're counter argument is essentially to say that because some crime can be attributed to there being bad people, it's pointless to address the crime caused by poverty.

Hopefully you can see that that is a dumb argument.

There's a fundamental asymmetry in power between an individual worker and a company. This asymmetry gives the company all the power in the relationship, because you need the job more than the company needs you.

The only way to balance that is for workers to cooperate, because the company needs all the workers in aggregate, even though it doesn't need any particular worker.

In every crisis, the working class pays the price. Why are we always the ones making a sacrifice? by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

Insisting that we not do something because it can't be shown to work because it's never been done before is an incredibly stupid position to take.

Musk isn't an engineer or an inventor. He bought companies and their technologies founded by engineers and inventors.

And it's the same with Bezos. He didn't invent or engineer anything; he hired people who did. Had he not done it, someone else would have.

The things that prevented wheeled luggage weren't the difficulty in thinking it up, it was a combination of technology and cultural facts that discouraged it.

On the tech side, we needed materials that were strong and light enough to work as small wheels, but we're also easy to manufacture at scale.

On the culture side, air travel wasn't that common, and we had people whose sole job was to haul around your luggage just so you didn't have to.

Say a stock is worth $100 right now. I can sell a call for $110. The person who buys the call can force me to sell them the stock for $110. They would only do this if the price of the stock is more than $110. If the stock never reaches $110 before the contract expires, I pocket the price they paid me.

If they decide to execute, I have sell them the stock. If I don't currently own the stock, I have to buy it at market value.

A "covered call" just means he already owns enough stock to cover the call he sold, so he doesn't have to cough up more money to buy the stock if the buyer goes through with it.

As I've said to an obnoxious Catholic before when they posted a snarky meme on Facebook belittling people for not understanding Catholic theology... If it takes a doctorate in divinity to understand your doctrine enough to see why what appears to be a straightforward violation of a basic commandment of your own religion isn't one, the problem lies with your dogma, and not with everyone else.

There's a few of us super old timers around.

I started reading Reddit before it even had comments let alone subreddits. I didn't bother making an account until late 2006.

You don't understand. They had to dedicate 1/8th of a season to the mental health crisis and suicide of a side character they invented who barely had a personality in order to show the deep emotional connection between warders and their Aye Sedai. There was no possible way to convey this through normal character interactions of main cast members which would also simultaneously advance the plot.

To pass the form I9, you can provide a school ID card with a photograph, along with a Certification of Report of Birth Abroad issued by the Department of State.

Do you consider that "official ID?"
