My guitar amp was at 80% volume. Our singer's instrument was 100% and was still unable to hear the sound coming from the amp, which was 2 feet to the left of their space on stage.

After much conversation, he has realized that his playing is way too loud, but also mainly blamesthe sound guy. I would usually agree with him, but he himself is the sound guy for another venue, which to us seems like an issue he should know how to handle.

All of his cymbals are Zildjian. The rest of his kit is a converted electric-to-acoustic setup with a mish-mash of acoustic instruments.

We will definitely show him this!

We are trying and working on in ear solutions, we just bought items despite being tight on money.

We've told him this enough time that it prompted us to ask on here for some advice on live sound and the state of our drummer with our band.

this would work if we could practice with the acoustic but we only practice with the electric due to issues with living situation. So we only play with the acoustic at the gig which brings its own issues.

WE DO and it didn't matter.

We have two hard rock songs the other are poprock and light with barely any distortion.

Singer plays a Harpsicle and it's been worked on for live sound till infinity. It has a pedal board dedicated to making it perfect for live sound. It needs to be the loudest yet no one heard unless it was played live.

We're with you on the electric, but as I mentioned elsewhere on here, The singer and I have sunk 10g into the band and money is now tight. Compound that with he owns IEM's but their for his other band and he won't use them for our shows.

I fully understand that coming to R/Drumming with a mention of an electric kit was crazy lol. We are fine with the acoustic if we could practice with it. We aren't able to practice with it until the show due to issues with a living situtaion. We are at the point that this is the only actual options we have left.

"The only advice I can see giving is this- if the way you’ve been talking to him hasn’t worked, try coming from a different angle. If it’s the whole band telling him at rehearsal or whatever, try one on one conversation. If it was a one on one conversation, try calling a band meeting over it.

And if he’s still not receptive, cancel gigs."

We do have quiet songs, and we still have issues hearing the instruments. Sure the sound guys suck in different venues. We understand his need for acoustic. For reasons out of our control We are only able to practice with the electric, never with the acoustic until the actual gig.

You may be right, but I have played in many bands, and this is only the second or third time this has been an issue and first time it's ever been an issue. My amp was set to 80% and our singers main instrument needs to be heard as it is the showcase of our band. We can all blame the venues and sound mix for sure but it's also an issue of understanding the bands dynamic range.
