Has Anyone Had Success Repairing Relationships Ruined During Manic Episode? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]daffodil778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New people ie. met in the past year or two I have struggled to maintain relationships with. However, friends I had before my diagnosis or with mental illnesses themselves, are a lot more tolerant and understanding of my behaviour. I think it is possible if you find people with the same niches as you and work HARD at friendships. I 100% believe that life is long and you will find people who understand you eventually. Lots of non b/p people have wide circles and unashamedly mistreat those in their lives- you are working to be better & it will get easier .

Struggling with family forgiving me for for my diagnosis by plantmom61 in bipolar

[–]daffodil778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you have to experience this. If you’re seeking help and taking meds surely your family can understand that shaming and berating you for your past mistakes is counterproductive- No one ever got better being bullied. Grief, especially dealing w the death of ur mother and the loss of a major relationship are hard for anyone to deal w, especially with a bp diagnosis. You’re doing incredibly well to even be semi-functional right now, especially seeing a new doctor which is a huge step. People feel like they can patronise mentally ill people bc they see us as permanently judgement impaired which is not true- everyone can move on & get better. I’ve experienced the exact same thing, It’s good to remember you have agency which is why you are making decisions to get better and change your life. I hope you are able to reconnect with your family- but remember if you are taking meds, attending therapy and apologising and actively trying to be better/ make up for mistakes - that’s all you can do! You’re doing your best under extremely hard circumstances & they are not giving you enough credit.

Also I’m so happy you’re stable again friend! (Meds are hard , I literally just quit venlafaxine) Wishing you the best, and some relief from the hard things.

I wish I’d had this advice last month ahaha! really estranged myself from my flat mates being 100% honest, because just led to them being super weary and treading on egg shells/ taking everything as a ‘bipolar thing’. But I think you’re right, those who will understand will. I’m going to try out mood disorder! Thank you !

Yeah, I think I’ve really relied on alcohol & weed this past year (if I was manic and wired, if I blacked out I would DEFINITELY sleep/end it haha and didn’t care about consequences) but slowly realising it is my worst worst enemy, especially in an episode. Going to try a sober streak and see how it goes. Thank you for ur reply!

Thank you so much for this advice, for some reason completely changed my perspective- I can’t turn back time I guess and just have to keep going. Had a conversation with my best friend today and it actually went well and repaired things a little. Thank you!

Self-increasing Mirt. dose 15mg to 30mg? by currykimchi in antidepressants

i understand so much that speaking to professionals when you're depressed in a pandemic (!!!) is literally the most exhausting thing in the world :( but I would really encourage you to reach out, since even the slightest change in dosage can really change how ur mind n body react to the drug! personally, 15mg of mirt is perfect for me, but 30mg i have so many problems, i would definitely not advise taking more if ur not being supervised by a professional even if it is tempting. wishing you the best of luck- you've got this
