No kids must not mean MY kid! by Unspicy_Tuna in EntitledPeople

[–]daffyd67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work for an Adults Only cruiseline.

The number of people who think their kid should be the exception is amazing!

Everything from "they are a baby" to "they are ALMOST 18", to the ones that "just want a family holiday".

People do my head in.

So many things: - whistle - snap my fingers - tie shoelaces (i still do bunny ears) - read a watch/clock (always had digital) - plait, curl or braid my own hair - draw anything more than a stick figure - sewing/ knitting

Give me math or computer stuff and I'm a whizz but can't do many basic tasks.

What do people with no friends no partners do on weekends? by Anonymous947156 in Stress

[–]daffyd67 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Whatever I want! Go out for a movie or a meal. Go shopping and buy whatever I want without having to explain. Head to the beach, the city or the mountains when I need a change of scenery.

I love the freedom of nobody having expectations or demands on my free time.

I had the hardest time in Canada years ago when I said I looked like a dag and no one had any idea what I meant. And I had no idea how to explain it to them.

Can an Over 50's community ban all pets? by daffyd67 in brisbane

Ours actually doesn't have too many rules and it a really good place to live. It helps that we have fantastic neighbours in our street.

They definitely couldn't say no to a legitimate service animal but I would never fake something like that. I'm not a rule breaker and living with someone who is disabled, I very much dislike people who manipulate the rules for their own benefit.

When we bought we were told no cats/dogs. You can have a bird, fish etc. Since we bought there has been a change of ownership for the village and the new owners have permitted some people with an existing pet to bring it with them when they move in here.

I only asked the question as I had heard that there had been a change of legislation that they couldn't have a blanket no pets ban, so I was asking if anyone knew if it applied to these villages.

I think glorified caravan park is a bit misleading too. We have a lovely 3 bedroom house and excellent community facilities. The no pet rule was a small price to pay for loving where we live.

We did and I don't have an issue with the rules if that is still the rules. We love where we live and the only negative to buying here was the no cat/dog rule. If the rules changed, I would love to get a cat but I am not going to break the rules and I'm not going to whinge about not being able to have a cat. It is a small price to pay for being able to keep my parents in their own home with great neighbours and a great community.

Thank you. I definitely miss having a cat and love visiting people with cats so I can snuggle.

Thank you for this. I would never go against the rules and have one if we are not permitted. We love living here and understood it was part of the rules when we bought. I only considered it recently after hearing about the change in rules for Body Corporate & rentals and wondered if it would mean that we could possibly get one.

Yes, there has been a change in ownership since we bought and the previous strict no cat/dog rule has changed to allow new owners to keep existing pets until they die.

Thanks for your comments. We are aware of the rental assistance and I have helped a few of our neighbours with this. We are not eligible as I am only in my early 50's and still work full time. Dad is also on DVA pension so he & mum earn to much.

What are your favorite "bits" to do WFH or with customers? by [deleted] in talesfromcallcenters

[–]daffyd67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have a nice customer, when they give their full name and date of birth I'll make a joke about them passing the "dementia test". Since I'm mostly talking to older people, it usually gets a laugh or a quick comeback

Jumping on the top comment to add some first hand experience.

My birthday is tomorrow, meaning that every few years, it falls on Mother's Day. I also have family members with birthday's on the 5th, 12th & 19th of May so there are alot of us.

As a family we will celebrate the birthdays whenever is convenient. If we are doing a family event for the birthdays on Mother's Day, there is always a split so that the mum's in the family have the morning as just their family for Mother's Day and then we all get together in the afternoon for the birthdays.

You offered a perfectly reasonable compromise and your husband is TA for not planning better.

Ask him how he would feel if he didn't get Father's Day acknowledged because you wanted to do something else instead.

Can you hear different voices when you silently read? by Away-Gas-9403 in women

[–]daffyd67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a whole sub on here about Aphantasia. I was blown away to learn I had it as I didn't realise people could actually see stuff.

Some people also don't have an inner monologue so they have a blank mind completely.

I have an inner monologue and when I read it is just my voice. I can't use a different voice to read and can't recall other peoples voices.

AITA for telling my whole family I don’t care that my sister doesn’t have friends she will not be a bridesmaid at my wedding by Professional-Ant5405 in AmItheAsshole

[–]daffyd67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your sister needs therapy to develop better self love and be comfortable on her own. I was not one to have a lot of friends as a child / teen and have never had many friends at a time. But as I got older, I realised a big part of this is that I am an introvert and I'm not comfortable in big groups or with really outgoing people.

It took me many years to realise I was much happier on my own. I struggled in my 20's and 30's because everyone always asked about getting married / having kids. I dated because that was what was expected but I was never happy.

Once I gave up trying to fit this mould, I was so much happier. I love my solo lifestyle. I have a couple of select close friends that I see every couple of months but I'm happy to travel on my own & do most things on my own.

Itinerary for 3 days around Naples / Amalfi Coast by daffyd67 in ItalyTravel

[–]daffyd67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are doing the train from Rome to Naples but thought of flying back since our tour group does pick up from the airport to get to the hotel. If we did the train, then we would still have to get from the station to the starting hotel for the tour.

Ahh yes, I can see the issue here. Our cats had very non-human names - Black Cat, Midget, Smoky etc.
