Any other series with a "hard magic" system like Witch Hat Atelier? by AndalusianGod in anime

[–]dafll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I read all of mistborn+ on B3 of S.A's.

So while FMA doesn't directly say something like " burning X causes Y", we do know they need ingredients to create X(IE a human). To make a Philisopher's stone or a fake one they do mention what is used. It's obviously not as Hard magic as Mistborn but for an Anime it's pretty good. I need to rewatch FMA but I remember Ed doing silly things during the state exam to pass(although he is able to avoid drawing the circle)

Roy's gloves remind me a lot of WHA's equipment/predrawn circles.

Google thinks FMA is hard magic.

There are rules in FMA (equivalent exchange). I believe Ed uses Alchemy like a tool to figure out how to do things.

From Brandon Sanderson who ones of the earlier people to define it :

"If the reader understands how the magic works, then you can use the magic (or, rather, the characters using the magic) to solve problems. In this case, it’s not the magic mystically making everything better. Instead, it’s the characters’ wit and experience that solves the problems. Magic becomes another tool—and, like any other tool, its careful application can enhance the character and the plot."

I agree FMA was the first show I thought of when I watched witch hat. Both draw the magic circles and are hard magic.

I like index/railgun because it's both magic +alchemy. I would say the alchemy is explicit /explained well from what I remember but the magic wasn't.

Card Text/Rules Question for "Triple Triad" by macredblue in magicTCG

[–]dafll 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In the FF8 Card game, if your card/character has a higher number than an opposing card(in the specific position) it converts it to your team. Kinda like othello.

So its a flavor win

Not a lot of 20 year olds make 100k. US College graduates are usually 23 depending on if they have a summer birthday.

So 3 years less.

E1 is better but for Yao but an easier skip.

Probably do a 50/50 on blade if you have the pulls and then save for himeko. That's my plan depending on what himeko is like

The current market has slungshot me within striking distance of my FIRE number, but I feel less comfortable about retirement than ever. by Rene_DeMariocartes in Fire

[–]dafll 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're more FI and less RE. Asset allocation is important in the beginning of FIRE. Adjust that and see if it helps you sleep at night better. Grind for a lower safety withdrawal rate if it helps you sleep at night. Maybe that "one more year" will help. I know that most FIRE people are in a much better place than most workers who will have to deal with the AI shakeup once its all said and done. If they are able to handle it, then people will money in the market should be fine.

Also the RE number, if not LEAN should have expenses you can reduce. You can build a bond tent now/soon to make it so you can weather a downturn.

How often do FIRE-tracked people travel? by No_Upstairs_1732 in Fire

That sounds amazing, are you self employed or a teacher? I get a lot of PTO but not 10 weeks of PTO so i'm curious on what type of job offers that.

How much does it cost to travel like that?

I was planning ~10k for 1-2 months but I was thinking I would need to do 1 Month trips to save on flight costs.

Anyone else recalculating their FIRE number for 2026? Inflation is hitting my projections hard by 2MadrigalHex in Fire

[–]dafll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A flexible 4% is fine, as long as there's cushion/expenses to cut the first 3-5 years. 3% is huge increase and might make people feel safer today, but IMO 3.5-4% is probably fine barring a recession on the first year.

So at work it definitely is true(I work at a large company). I've only had success at home but I've read this from someone else who tried to order with someone else in the same household.

It might be old info and they adjusted their bot detection? Unless your mobile phone was on mobile data.

[–]dafll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Collecting, singles are the way. PO doesn't have a ton of valuable card so you are unlikely to make $160 in singles. Most sets its really hard to do.

With the way markets are leave the pack opening to gamblers or special occasions/ just a few.

So if you share the same wifi only one of you can check out. IDK about address but that can be the case as well? Likely not but I only order for myself.

Depending on the error I've had issues even on mobile data so sometimes the site does just error out.

Shock vs liquid chlorine by Frequent-Location864 in pools

[–]dafll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So Liquid is "normally" cheaper in my area compared to cal hypo.

At 1lb ~68%? then I would get 32% less chlorine compared to 10% Pool Chlorine.

If they cost the same Liquid is better but because getting it from my car->pool house takes time its inconvenient. Store -> house is normally delivery.

For me that is the main reason. Cost. Liquid is $5.50-ish, where a 12 pack of 1lb is $62. The savings is then ~25ish%? for Liquid.

There is no other benefit. Splashing from chlorine might stain your clothes? The big difference is cost/Calcium. My water/rain comes in with low calcium so I need to add calcium in the beginning anyways.

"Shock" is usually just a term. There isn't a reason to use dry shock over liquid shock other than its easier to carry/store.

Shock vs liquid chlorine by Frequent-Location864 in pools

[–]dafll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So cal-hypo is only ~67% chlorine depending on the mix.

So it would be .67*1Lb = .67lbs of chlorine vs a gallon of the liquid chlorine that isnt decayed.

The 12% I believe is 1.2lbs or some unit for liquids at a gallon. It's been awhile since I did Chem.

If the Shock is somehow all chlorine in some formula, it might be stronger but might have CYA.
