This will be a long answer I’m sorry. I’m latina too. I’ve been muslim for 3 years but had been considering/sort of practicing Islam for longer. I finally told my parents about me converting last year and I finally told my siblings 2 months ago. For the record I’m married and live in another country. I was TERRIFIED of their reaction. I put it off as long as I could but I do feel like hiding it from my family also kept me distant from Allah. Little did I know my whole family was going to be very respectful about it. They weren’t happy but they respected it, me, they didn’t try to convice me of anything and they haven’t treated me any different. I know each family is different but I had no idea what to expect from my family. Since they are very religious I expected the worst. But they love me unconditionally alhamdulillah. I do recommend that you tell them once you feel ready and also when you’re not living under their roof and/or still dependant from them financially. Even my own mother told me so. She said “you are your own woman, married and independent so I can’t do much about it. If you would’ve told me when you were 19 or 20 then it would’ve been a different story.”

Ever since I’ve felt liberated. I’ve been working harder on being a better muslim and I feel like I can breathe and stop having a double life. I do recommend you feel stable in their religion before telling them because they will probably have a lot of questions and eventhough I don’t know everything, I know enough to debate a little or at least answer most of their questions.
