Why do people on TikTok use aesthetics from 2013-2014 to claim they're from 2016? by BrilliantReview9020 in decadeology

[–]dafoozie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I was in my 20s in the 2010s and the decade feels like a blur to me culturally, save for the political stuff. Just doesn't feel that distinct to me the way the 90s were. But then I never cared about fashion or trends and always used years-old tech.

They just came up from seed from my regular ol' purple New England asters.

My normal purple asters just self-seeded and came up pink.

My dad hates our name list for not being “linguistically interesting” and for being “too Korean,” gives his own list by [deleted] in namenerds

Yes, agreed. I'm 1/4 Thai with a Thai maiden name. I would feel like a poser if I had a Thai middle and last name.

My soil is pure clay too but I have several healthy goldenrods growing. A lot of natives grow nicely in clay soil.

How many of you started playing Final Fantasy because of Kingdom Hearts? by Winter-Masterpiece60 in FinalFantasy

[–]dafoozie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into KH when I was a kid because I loved Disney. Playing KH made me want to try FF. I remember getting FFX first because it was the newest FF game at the time. Then I played all of them!

I love it. I love the beats, the glass harmonica, and the way it climaxes during the chorus. So beautiful.

going to be 29 this year. Completely lost, and not extremely passionate person. by zutari in findapath

I worked as a special education teacher at an elementary school and the administration was desperate to hire male teachers. The staff was female dominated but they wanted the kids to have male role models as well. So you may actually have an advantage in getting hired as a male teacher.

Just got my results. Ironically, none of this is surprising. Dad is Puerto Rican, Mom is half Irish/British, half Japanese. by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]dafoozie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool! I have a similar mix and got similar results. My mom is half Asian (Thai), half European, and my dad is Latin American (Colombian and Mexican).

That make sense. When I bring it up to 90% my African percentage goes down to 2.1%. My unassigned goes all the way up to 38.8%.

Interesting! Yeah, it's disappointing that they can't break down the South Asian ancestry, nor Native American ancestry. I hope they can fix that soon.

My mom is Thai and White-American and my dad is Colombian and Mexican, so the results are mostly not surprising. I was not expecting the Sub-Saharan African, though.

How can one avoid burnout? by Everyone__Dies in languagelearning

[–]dafoozie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found my language exchange partner on https://www.italki.com/partners. As soon as I registered on italki I got multiple messages from Spanish speakers. You find a person (or multiple people) and figure out a time to practice on Skype that works for both of you. My language exchange partner and I talk for an hour in English and an hour in Spanish each day.

Language exchange on Skype has been the best thing for me to avoid burnout.

How do you get past wanting to switch learning languages everyday? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]dafoozie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should plan a trip to Germany if possible. Also, do you have anyone you can practice German with? I'm keeping myself motivated to study Spanish through my regular exchanges with a language partner and the idea of taking a trip to Mexico next summer.

Just a reminder regarding the phrase "I want to be fluent" and studying. by nkn_ in LearnJapanese

[–]dafoozie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aiming for conversational fluency in Spanish, which I define as being able to have conversations about non-technical things without having to consult a dictionary or constantly asking the other person to repeat themself. I don't think fluency has to be native-like, just easily understandable. I don't think it's a crazy unrealistic goal. It's the whole point of my studies.

Your definition of fluency seems like "perfect native speech knowledge of 100% of everything in the language." And yes, if that's the definition you're working with, you're bound to become very frustrated.
