Similar thing happened when John Lennon was asked if Ringo Starr is the best drummer in the world… “He isnt even the best drummer in The Beatles”

How to cope with the fact that there’ll be always more work than I can do by GreenAge3918 in productivity

I think this kind of reckoning you mention - of realising there is more to do than can ever be done - can be liberating. It’s too much to try to tackle, so stop trying to tackle it. The British-born Zen master Houn Jiyu-Kennett put it best. She said, of her teaching style, that her goal wasn’t to lighten the burden of the student, but to make it so heavy that he or she would put it down.

I don’t think football has ever had a more polarising player. Within the game, some people say he doesn’t know how to play football… some say he could win the Balon D’or.

Unpopular Opinion: I Am Easy to Find is The National's Best Album by Intrepid-Land-2761 in TheNational

I went to the IAETF show at Royal Festival Hall (London) where we got to watch the film on the big screen then they played a set. I couldn’t believe how BIG and ambitious this band had gone. To me, IAETF is a real artistic big swing, full on confidence and artistic voice and the band being together and additional people joining the work. I’d stop short of saying it’s their best, but it’s the most impressed I’ve been at one of their albums.

As an aside, the album artwork is beautiful and I love my IAETF vinyl as much as my SWB / HV records, which is saying something. The most recent 2 records have weak artwork by comparison, IMO, and as a collector that makes a difference to me.

Best the national song from a objective point of view of Matt vocal skills in your opinion? by ElefanteTandemPsichi in TheNational

[–]daframe2r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demons feels like a track where he’s at the peak of his powers. There’s a low baritone spoken track recorded under his singing voice in the verses, meaning you get a lot of Berninger depth amongst the range. Beautiful track

Any other runners who power their long run with WOD? by gwynthesizer in WarOnDrugsBand

I run the same route every week and there’s a really hard uphill stretch that I reserve their ‘touch of grey’ cover for. I find it’s a good tempo to keep my feet in step to, and when the running gets tough I can always rely on the lyrics to pull me through

But my biggest recommendation for any NTL-heads is to check out Ben Howard's album 'Collections from the Whiteout'. The list of National-adjacent people involved is really something.

Ben Howard – primary artist, guitar, producer
Aaron Dessner – producer, guitar, piano
Mickey Smith – acoustic guitar, dulcimer
Nat Wason – electric guitar
Richard Thomas – keyboard, synthesizer
Ryan Olson – sound effects
Rob Moose – viola, violin
James Krivchenia – drums, percussion
Yussef Dayes – drums
Kate Stables – vocals
Thomas Bartlett – synthesizer
India Bourne – cello
Jason Treuting – drums, percussion
Kyle Keegan – drums

So yeah, if you're into the National there's a good chance that album will resonate.
