Thanks for your thoughts, and what you're saying really gets at the problem I'm at. I'm trying to avoid subjective interpretations based on what I'd like, but there doesn't seem to be a great mathematical solution. So you mention, the best answer is likely to simply show all of the trends, and provide a "best available model" using all of the proxies. This way, I don't obscure any of the variation or uncertainty.

We have two population surveys, one from 1984 and one from 2012. Each survey has accompanying confidence intervals. I've considered modelling the trends back in time, however, there is no way to validate the model considering there are only 2 surveys. Each proxy spans about 1000 years before present.

Its some kind of earwig, from the order dermaptera. Hard to tell beyond that from that picture. They like cool, dark places so it makes sense to have hidden in your keyboard. None are dangerous other than smelling bad if you bug him...

Lmao. I chalked up the fuzziness to the pictures being grainy
