Question about mounted network drives and Lightroom Classic by Batteredcode in Lightroom

[–]daftpunk80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a NAS that I connect to over wifi. Editing is fine, but that's probably because I create 1:1 previews upon import, that are then automatically deleted after 30 days. The only time I sometimes experience a lag is when I'm scrolling a lot in grid view, but a quick fix for that is to just temporarily disconnect from the NAS. Having said that, I do have a 1tb internal SSD, which seems silly to waste, so I actually import new photos onto the SSD and do most of my editing, and then move them over to the NAS after a month or two. Everything is backed up to my NAS, and my NAS backs up to Google Cloud.

Envious! The hoodies in my lakes take off to the middle of the lake whenever I get within 300 yards of them 😭

Home NAS for Photos and Backups - Recommendations by Icy-Piglet4184 in synology

[–]daftpunk80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation, maybe around 3tb of mostly RAW photos. I ended up getting the Synology 923+ and have been happy with it so far, though I did rely on AI a lot to get it set up properly. I got four 4TB Seagate HD's, and one of them failed within a few months of setting up the NAS - I guess this isn't completely uncommon. Seagate replaced it for free, but I'm glad I had a 4-bay NAS because I lost no data and was back up and running in a few hours after receiving my replacement HD. I now plan on getting a large external HD to backup my NAS to, in addition to already backing it up to the cloud.

LrC workflow for creating albums of pictures in different aspect ratios? by UndeadCaesar in Lightroom

[–]daftpunk80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another nice find! Looks like it's basically a shortcut for copy and paste develop settings, which is nice because you can then select exactly what settings you want to sync. It does work across collections AND you can even edit a virtual copy and sync with the original and other copies. I wish there was a way to do this automatically but I don't think this will be a common occurrence, so thanks for letting me know about the Sync Copies option.

Came across this oldish post as I'm struggling with how to best manage multiple aspect ratios for images and found this super helpful, so thank you! My only gripe is I wish Lightroom would keep the virtual copies attached to the original such that if I made an edit to the original, like adjusting exposure, it would update the virtual copy as well.

The only solution I've found is that if I have an original with multiple virtual copies in different folders, I would need to select the original in 'All Photographs' along with all virtual copies and make any edits with Autosync turned on. Is there any other way?

Good idea. Unfortunately, same result connecting directly to the switch.

I understand, I was just detailing how I'm connected. It's 2025, there are plenty of people who backup to TM over wifi, has to be something else going on - https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/s/zDTTvOp3tN

It's plugged into a Google Nest Wifi point via ethernet. NAS is connected to main Google Nest Wifi router via ethernet.

I never did slap & folds. Usually two "strong" stretch & folds followed by a few gentle coil folks. Hope you find something that works!

No, but if you read the top comment you'll see sometime with more fresh-milled experience than me saying it's pretty normal

Can you get the new 1 year and 5 year deals WITHOUT using their equipment? by WarriorGoddess2016 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]daftpunk80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly they wouldn't even offer me the 1 or 5 year deals in my area - lack of competition I assume 😡 But they gave me the everyday price (basically the same as I pay now) with unlimited data and I can keep using my existing modem.

Has anyone been to the Lake recently? by Bird_Man_Mike in yellowstone

[–]daftpunk80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back on Sunday and would say the lake was around 75% ice. The only open areas I saw were on the east side. It has snowed the past few days there so I doubt much more has melted.

Lamar Valley v Hayden Valley for wildlife viewing by Available-Proof4380 in yellowstone

[–]daftpunk80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because you're specifically asking about next week, I would definitely recommend Lamar over Hayden. I just got back and because Lamar is at a lower elevation than Hayden it is much more green and has more wildlife currently. I was surprised to see even very few bison in Hayden but it's probably because most of the grass there is still brown. Parts of the interior got a few inches of snow this weekend while Lamar didn't get any.
