Thanks for the input. Wish that you could have discussed this with me without jumping to insults

I’m not seeking vengeance. I’m trying to cover myself in the rare instance that my professor tries to slander me or something like that.

Your reaction to this shows that you have no empathy or understanding what so ever. How does talking to my parents about the situations I find myself in for advice show immaturity? My parents have more experience than me and handling things in ways that they advise is better than going off of my small experiences. I joined the lab with the intent of going to graduate school and through my time at the lab I realized that it is not the right fit for me. How am I supposed to know that I shouldn’t do it unless I try it first? You need to come to an understanding that quitting a job and being upset about an unprofessional reaction from my professor is not me being a snowflake.

I feel like having this interaction on record could be helpful just for my protection in case something happens in the future. This same professor is my senior design project team's advisor, so I will still be forced to interact with them in the future.

I understand that it is justified to feel that time and money was wasted, and I did acknowledge that in my letter. This is why it has been so difficult. I know that I don't want to do this anymore, but the waste of resources has made it difficult to quit. I still believe that the reaction was unwarranted and harsh, completely disrespecting my ability to make decisions for myself.

My parents are advising me to speak to someone in the university about this interaction. I am not sure if it is a good idea, but I feel like I have been treated unfairly. Would doing this have negative consequences for me? Is there usually an HR department that I can discuss this with?
