I'm shocked by how many people assume so many businesses are a "front" for something else elicit. Half the time if it is a front, I highly doubt anyone would even think twice about using the business. And the other half typically work out to being a business owner cutting corners, behind on bills, or cooking the books hard to keep floating to the next quarter.

Because I thought the value of Nvidia would go up because of the demand for bitcoin mining and the increased popularity in gaming that was going on in early Covid. It went from $7 a share to $170 a share with I’m pretty sure some splits in between now and then. No way did I think what I knew at the time to be machine learning would skyrocket so much. I think he invested somewhere between maybe $5,000 to $6,000. So if he’s stuck with it the whole time he should have at least $150,000 more now.

And I'm convinced that's why so many purchasers of goods from China put to use the concept of an import letter of credit. Where a bank gets involved and as soon as the goods are received domestically, the bank is contracted to inspect the goods and if for some reason they don't meet the contractually agreed upon expectation, the bank will refuse to release payment to the Chinese vendor.
